About
Reopening on the may 20th 2021 the de Vogüé castle is part of the National Heritage that cannot be ignored in southern Ardeche. The origins of the castle, birthplace of the de Vogüé family, date back to the end on the 12th century. It still belongs to the de Vogüé family today and is run by the association Vivante Ardeche. Year after year the association has bet on developing an ambitious politics of valuing this historic heritage and programming each year two exhibitions of contemporary artists with high quality original work.

The village of Vogue is already worth a visit, and you have a particularly good panoramic view of it from the castle elevated garden, reachable from the 1st floor. A total of 3 floors plus the underground floor are visitable, mostly filled up with a painting exposition, but there are also quite a few information about the history of the Vogue family, still owning the castle and linked to the area since the 13th century. The Chapel and the kitchen, though empty, are quite good to bring you in the past with their atmosphere. Definitely worth the 5 euro you pay at the entrance.

This was a lovely find in a beautiful small town. I'd recommend a stroll around the town, followed by a wander around the chateau. Ideally followed by a nice ice cream near the river.

It took about an hour to visit, including a 10 minute break in a pretty courtyard. Some rooms of Chateau de Vogue are devoted to displaying art exhibitions; other parts of the castle contain historical documents, paintings and photographs of the people who have owned the castle and title going back to the 12th century and going forward to include its current owner. This was fascinating place to visit.

If you are looking for a chateau full of furniture and antiques do not go to this one
It is historic, with a base in modern art.
A lovely small terrace garden which gives a super view of the valley and river.
No cafe
A children's quiz in French
Guide in English.
Cheap entrance fee
Not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or infirm.
Worth the ticket price

Town castle, you can walk around the different rooms, the garden and the chapel. Nice visit if you are around, and reasonable price for entrance, but it’s more kind of palace rather than a castle.

We visited the village in the morning, which is probably for the best since it's quite a hike (with two small kids) to the castle. We really enjoyed the made of narrow streets and alleys. Didn't enter the castle, but the outside looks really nice. We parked at the main road entering the village. You have a nice view of Vogüé and the bridges spanning the river. Good for a short visit!

The Chateau is on the bank of the Ardeche River and dominates the quaint village. It was built in the 13th and 15th century and redone in the 17th century. The hanging gardens are a must to see and give a great view of the village and surrounding mountains

A lovely tour of a town and chateau. It was fun to wander through the streets and see buildings that date back several centuries. Definitely worth the stroll.

This is a classic gem. below Mont-Gerbier-des- Jones, the source of the river Loire we arrived at Vogue squeezed between the foot of a cliff and a loop in the river. Village and chateau have been built out of the same golden limestone and this coupled with the round Roman tiles that cover the roofs give a distinctly southern look to the village.
We love the region of the Ardeche for it holds a surprising amount of fortified hilltopvillages like the nearby feudal village of Rochecolombe.
In Vogue, only vestiges of the fortifications remain, the concern for defence becomes evident in the way the tall narrow houses have been built in relation to each other. its a treat to walk through the maze of streets and the complex series of vaulted passageways.
