We have spent the memorial weekend in here. It was so wonderful. We stayed in Clayton. We have visited Anna ruby falls, Brasstown bald in Russel brasstown scenic byway and Tallulah falls. Everything was amazing. Anna ruby falls was very nice but a little crowded. The mountain views from Brasstown bald was gorgeous and it was totally worth the hike up and down.
The nice surprise was the Helton creek falls. We had to take the gravel road to the falls and the experience was thrilling for us :-) Water falls down to a pool here which we absolutely loved.
In Amicalola state park, we hiked to the top of the falls and are stunned by the views from there. From there we took the stairs to climb down. We thought of hiking to the Dick's creek falls (which again is at the end of a gravel road) instead driven to the Chattooga River. The view of the river and trees in the morning time is the one we will never forget. It was picturesque.
One thing we loved most is the creeks and waterfalls in this area. Even when you take a small hike you would find a creek. It was so nice to walk along a creek. The sound of the creeks and waterfalls was so refreshing and divine. We absolutely loved everything in there.

Beutiful place to camp. Husband and I camped for five nights. We were right on the river. You can hear the water stream all day and night. Very relaxing and breathtaking. Camp sights were nice and big with fire ring and picnic table. Had four bathrooms with flushable toilets. It was our first visit in the area and will definitely be back.

The Chattahoochee National Forest is home to the southern terminus of the Applachian trail, located at Springer Mountain in Dawson County, Georgia. Amicalola Falls, over 700 feet of cascading water, is nearby. Other notable waterfalls in the forest are Anna Ruby, Desoto, Dukes Creek, Tallulah, and Toccoa, Lakes Chatuge, Burton, Rabun, Winfield Scott and Yonah teem with fish and the streams are stocked with trout from the fish hatchery at Lake Burton. Georgia's tallest peak is located in the Forest near Hiawassee. Brasstown Bald is 4,784 feet of beauty in the lower range of the Blue Ridge mountains. Dahlonega is the site of a gold rush in the 1840s. Gold from the mines there adorns the dome of the state capitol in Atlanta. Eight state parks are in the Forest, many with wonderful accomodations. The home office of the Chattahoochee National Forest is located at

The forest is seriously beautiful, really exotic. Excellent for hiking and natures trails. The Panther Creek Falls Trail is a must-do activity for nature lovers.

We spent a few days fishing and wandering the Chattahoochee National Forest, and it did not disappoint. Georgia DNR has done a wonderful job stocking the water ways with trout, and the park service does a great job keeping the roads navigable. You'd be challenged to find more beautiful scenery, anywhere in the world. Take a day, or even a week, and give the place a try. It is a nice break from crowded roads, and the ordinary noise and stress of every day life. Your phone will have no service through most of it, but you'll thank the park for that very quickly as you realize how freeing it is to be away from the digital leash.

The Chattahoochee NF is so large it covers a large part of northern Georgia, so you are going to be driving in and out of it. It's beautiful through every turn you make. The roads wind up and down the mountains with breathtaking views. We were there a week and seen 17 waterfalls and did not see half. There are several state parks within the national forest, all beautiful and worth seeing. North Georgia is a special place with a very special group of people that will leave a worm place in your heart and make you want to come back time and time again.

Took GA 75 north past Helen, GA in to the Chattahoochee National Forest primitive campground. (You know you're getting close when you pass Andrews Cove Campground). It was amazing; camped for free right by a waterfall. Only downside was having to drive five mountain road miles on a gravel trail; totally worth it. Highly recommend for families or lovers!

There are way to many incredibly beautiful spots in the Chattahoochee National Forest to start to list them here. However this is one of the most beautiful and magical places in Georgia and in the Southern Appalachians. There is a lot to do and see here and there's not a lot of wrong ways to go about exploring the area, just jump in!

The forest goes beyond Clayton so if you are in the Mark Trail Wilderness in Union County then take the long forest road 44 for five miles. The fall parking area is just past the campground, the path is short and easy to a wonderful 70 foot fall

Please advise. We will be in the area and want to see this but have a question. How would you rate the trail... Moderate. easygoing or lots of climbing with up and down hills. Thanks. Pam.

Hi Tracey, (and anyone with a viewpoint) :)
What route did you take. I will be travelling from Atlanta to Charlotte in September and have a few days to spare. Thinking of going via Chattahoochee NP. What do you think ?
Thanks

There are numerous nice cabins in Rabun County. If you plan to head further north check out cabins in Piegon Forge. Most of these can be found on TripAdvisor.

Does anyone know of any guide books that I could purchase for the Chattahoochee National Forest or the Northern Georgia mountains?
