About
We are a locally owned outdoor store carrying a wide variety of hiking and camping gear, gift items, local beer, clothing, books, kids play area, ice cream and popsicles and an indoor axe throwing venue! A little all over the place but we wouldn't have it any other way!

We only wish they would open up a location in Asheville! Wander North Georgia is an amazing business run by amazing people invested in their community.

Everything they sell is carefully chosen for quality and design. They go beyond selling though and work hard to use their platform to advocate for responsible backcountry recreation while encouraging people to get outside.

Though we are not in Georgia at their physical location often we just ordered our new face masks from them on their website. Shipping was super fast and now we are IN LOVE!

Since the pandemic hit we have tried a half dozen masks and these are by FAR the best. The ear loops adjust and there is an air pocket in the front so the fabric is not smashed up against your nose. We can talk to our customers without sounding muffled and almost forget we are wearing them...

Whether you are looking for outdoor gear to fuel your adventures (or a mask that doesn’t suck) then this is the place you want to support! Attaching a photo of our new masks :)

We happened upon this lovely store while "Wandering around in Clayton, North Georgia". While I am not an avid hiker, this shop had many items to offer travelers of all types. I especially appreciate the selection of locally produced products. Who wants to travel to a new place just to buy things made in China? Not this girl. I found awesome soaps and beard balm for my husband, friends and family.

Absolute Fun! This store kept our family engaged for an hour. Great variety, good prices from toddler items to adult. We left with puzzles, stones, posters and a wish list. Staff was friendly and even helped up with lunch recommendations.

I heard about this shop from a friend over a year ago and have been wanting to go since then. Very worth it! They have a great selection of gear and clothing. Their snapback selection is on point! Will definitely be returning to support this business.

It’s been a quaint shop to wander through to kill time, especially for someone like me who is “local”, but their items are cheaply made and overpriced. I would never actually buy from them. Most recently however they kicked out and (heard say from the visitor) banned a tourist from the store for wearing a cap with a political phrase on it. A small business can’t afford to be picky with their clientele, especially in such a tight knit community like Clayton. They’ve made the entire community look and with their unprofessional, unkind and backwards behavior. I will never waste my time with them again.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Unfortunately I'm afraid the incident you are referring to didn't exactly happen like that. We posted our response to the negative review that was left by the person who was asked to leave. Multiple witnesses in the store confirmed our account of the incident. There is no need to go back and forth here but as a small business owner and someone who has never asked anyone to leave our store in 3+ years, I would hope you would give us another chance and not go off of second hand information of the incident. If you have any questions about it and would like to know the truth of what happened, please feel to come by the store and introduce yourself to one of the owners. You can ask for Josh or Alex or you are welcome to email me directly at contact@wandernorthgeorgia.com. We have never asked anyone to leave our store based on their politics, religion, or personal beliefs and it'll be a cold day before that happens. As for the cheaply made and overpriced items, we hear your feedback. I'm not sure what specific items you're referring to as the majority of our store features Made in America products and as a small store we support over 25 brands, small businesses, and artists within a 100 mile radius. When you count our locally designed and printed products, over 65% of our sales come directly from locally made products within 100 miles. Not everything we carry is cheap but we strive really hard and put a lot of thought into carrying the most quality items at a fair price. Again, I want to thank you for leaving a review but if you ever have any issues or want to talk to an owner person, I'd love to put a name with a face and apologize personally for the rumors or any bad experience you may have had with our shop. My name is Josh and I hope to hear from you.

Wander is probably my favourite store in all of Clayton. Quality local products with the intention of getting you outside and gathered with family/friends.
As a hiker, I have relied on Wander for many needs from maps or gear to socks, you’ll find all your needs met.
I also really enjoy the book section in general. (I was SO beyond ecstatic to find and buy some John Muir.. he’s my hero!!).
Wander had the best selection of books in town.
The entire feel of Wander is just really wanderful. I do miss the ice cream, but the ax throwing makes up for it.

To start with, Wander North Georgia is an amazing store. If you can't find something that you want in this store, well then there very well may be something seriously wrong with you. They have a broad selection of clothing and an eclectic selection of outdoor equipment. Some highlights are the amazing selection of unique/fun socks, Wander North Georgia hats/shirts/mugs/sili-pints, stickers etc.., hammocks, high quality footwear, and coming soon AXE THROWING. Actual axes, not the cans of body spray. The entire staff is welcoming, kind, supportive, and can help you with anything you might need. They can also provide you with information on local hikes and other nearby attractions. Wander NG also donates a portion of their monthly sales to local non-profit organizations that support the community. This is honestly just the tip of the iceberg. If you find yourself in North Georgia you owe it to yourself to swing by and pay them a visit. Make sure once you visit the store you walk through town and visit one of the outstanding restaurants that make Clayton such a unique little town.
