We stayed in Shalimar's Gold cabin for 5 nights. The cabin had enough space for our 5 people to sleep easily. The kitchen was nice since there is no food on the property itself, we cooked breakfast and lunch at the cabin and went out for dinners. The cabin could use some updates, downstairs bed and sofas were lumpy and not the most comfortable. The back deck has wonderful views. We did zip lining, ATVs, horseback riding and boating with Sunburst. The zip lining was fun, you don't stay clipped in the whole time, they clip you in for each line and then unclip at the end, you then walk to the next line. We were able to go upside down and my son did a flip at take off on one of them which he really enjoyed. ATVs were a lot of fun, they give you a short tutorial and make sure you know how to ride prior to going on the trail. The guides keep watch to make sure you are safe and enjoying yourself. There is a stop at the petting zoo where they have pigs, goats, turkey, ax throwing, etc and another stop and a tower you can climb that has amazing views. ATVs are not a fast passed course, but the terrain makes it very fun still. Horseback riding went through trails on the property and through the woods up and down hills. We were able to trout and gallop on the horses which was a lot of fun. Our guide was good and helping us know how to navigate the horses and when to let them pick their own pace and course. Boating was nice and relaxing. The water was calm and pretty clear. Getting into the Hobie kayak was on a rocky shoreline, we stopped to walk to the waterfall and had to pull out on a dock with a pool type ladder. The hike to the waterfall wasn't too difficult and well worth the view. We got back onto the kayaks via the same pool ladder and the ended at a dock. There is a paddle or peddle option with these kayaks. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and all of the adventures. The guides, staff and owners were very helpful and informative and willing to do anything they could to help.

We took our daughter (11) and son (8) who had both never been on a horse. I wanted them to get a good, extended adventure, so we went on the 3 hour tour. Mason was our guide & he did a great job keeping us safe and entertained. The hills and descents were quite challenging but the horses were calm and knew exactly what to do. We even trotted a few times (although my kids couldn’t quite figure out how to keep from slamming into the saddle so that wasn’t their favorite:) The scenery was so peaceful and enjoyable. Definitely recommend Sunburst if you want to horseback ride— all the fun of horses with no extra work involved. And Mason is a great guide!

We had a group of 8 (was supposed to be 9 but my daughter had an emergency apendectomy a few days before). 5 of us went zip lining, 2 went on the 2 hour horseback ride and I was what they call a tally-ho. A tally ho rides along and observes the zip lining without actually zipping. WOW we had so much fun! Our group of zip liners ranged from 7 to 72! The guides were so awesome. They told us about each line, explained everything, and made funny jokes all while taking the utmost care of our group. Nolan was my ATV driver for Tally Ho and he was so polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Zip Lines are all accessible without lots of stairs, most are on low platforms, and they drive you to the top. Everyone in our group had different favorite lines, and they got to go upside down, race on lines, and even go through a cave! My sister and my son also enjoyed their horseback right through the national forest. Because I did the Tally-Ho, I was able to take tons of movies and pictures of my family's adventures. Thank you Becky and crew for such wonderful memories and for understanding my daughter's situation. This is a great place to go!

Picked this stable due to all the good reviews regarding the horseback riding. The horses were beautiful and in good shape. The scenery was amazing. However, on a 2 hour trail ride, our guide kept jumping on and off her horse to “clear the trail.” She was throwing rocks, limbs and other debris off the trail into the woods. Not only was it startling the horse right behind her, it was not so enjoyable to stop and go, stop and go, stop and go. To pay nearly $200 for my daughter and I to expect a nice leisurely trail ride ended up being quite frustrating. When I asked the guide was it customary to do “trail clean up” during time designated for paying customers, she mumbled something under her breath. I suppose the answer was yes. I understand the trail must be maintained but that should be during off hours and not during an expensive trail ride. If that had not happened, it would have been nice. The area was clean, the horses were well taken care and the staff was friendly.
One other suggestion would be to give the customers time to have a photo opportunity with their horses. For many, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

This was our fifth adventure with Sunburst-last four trips (horseback riding and zip lining would get a 5 star) but this one only gets 2! Our guide (her name was Savannah or Samantha -couldn’t hear her well when she introduced herself) was very rude!! She was very short and snappy with us. When she wasn’t fussing at us she literally said nothing the rest of the 2 hours until the very end and then turned on her “happy tour guide voice”. She doesn’t seem to enjoy her job and that reflects bad on Sumburst.

This was my 3rd time booking an ATV ride the first 2 were awesome. The 3rd left me with horrible injuries after asking a tour guide to move me because the driver in front continued to stop while going up hill leaving me rolling backwards. They charge me 150.00 for damage that was not visible because the ATV fell on me not the ground. However my pain and bruises are unforgivable. They should have different bookings. Families w/ children and thrill seekers shouldn’t be on. A trail together. We clearly rode like it was a junior trail.

We took the 1 hour horseback ride and it was wonderful! I have been on a just a few horse rides in my life and am definitely still a novice but this was the perfect combination of suitable for a beginner yet not at all boring. The group I was with included me and my teenage daughter, plus there was another family that was a grandmother, a young teen, and a young girl (maybe 7 years old). What made this ride so wonderful is the trail goes through a beautiful surrounding of woods that includes a national forest. We saw deer running through the woods and grazing in a field. The terrain including riding up and down some hills, through a small creek, some muddy trails, some rocky trails, some flat terrain, etc. which gave it a great variety and excitement for our skill level. We also rode past their petting zoo / animal farm area. The horses were trained to follow each other well and they each had their own personalities / quirks for us to adjust to also. Before the ride, we were all given a demo of how to ride and an opportunity to ask questions. Our guide, Nolan, was very pleasant and funny and talked the whole time explaining sites along the way and answering questions...all the while keeping an eye on us. I highly recommend this ride and would be anxious to do it again! The setting was soooo gorgeous and after the experience I felt like a competent horse rider (that and the 13 seasons of Heartland I have watched).

We booked a 2-hour horseback ride through the woods and were very happy with the experience. This was our first time ever riding horses and we rode Brego and Sam and all of the horses seemed well cared for and clean. Our guide was great and gave a good tour of the area with the local history.
Easy and detailed booking process online. Easy parking. Great experience overall.

My family and I heard about this hidden gem from a friend and decided to give it a try during a double birthday weekend (my son's 13th and my 40th). What we didn't expect was how beautiful and secluded it was. The cabin was gorgeous! We only did two of the adventures they offer on site, ATV tour and zip lining. The entire family enjoyed every minute. We're looking forward to going back for horse back riding and boating. It was also close to Helen, Lake Burton, and Unicoi State Park. However, we enjoyed Sunburst so much we didn't even make it to the lake or the park. I highly recommend Sunburst for families, romantic getaways, outdoor fun, team building, or anything else you can think of!

As the location of the Cabin was perfect the rest had something to be desired. When we first entered the cabin there was a strong musty order & cobwebs hanging down from the ceiling. I opened the doors and windows to try and bring in some fresh air which had little effect, so I went to the store and bought some candles and free-breeze. As we took some time in the hot tub while we let the candles and free-breeze work by the time we went to bed the smell was gone and I had gotten a stick to remove the cobwebs. I had bread and bananas on the counter and during the night mice had come and had a nice banana and bread feast. I contacted Becky and the next night there were no little critters. I know during these times perhaps having help to get the cabin ready is a little more difficult and I would still be willing to go back because of the peacefulness of sitting on the back porch having a coffee and watching a fox walk across the pasture. Becky and Elliot were great host but I think they may have been short handed.
