We have rented a pontoon boat from the marina at Carter’s Lake every year for three years. The boats are very clean, in perfect shape mechanically and some have Bluetooth! We love the lake because there are no houses on it and very few other boaters. We can’t wait to go again next year!

We rented a 30 foot Tritoon pontoon boat for a full day on Labor Day weekend. There were three couples and three children under 2 yo. The boat was immaculate. Everything worked! When have you been on a rental boat where everything worked!? Even the bluetooth connection worked! The slide has a built-in pump and was great fun. The boat was big enough for all the people and all the things and there was still room for the kids to run around on the completely enclosed lower deck. The owner/operator has rules about using the boat and navigating the lake. These rules are based on the features of the lake and were very helpful to us, since we had never been on this lake. The lake is manmade and very deep with lots of underwater trees near the shore. So, we stayed away from shore and never anchored. The lake was beautiful and the water was cool but not cold. There was a good amount of boat traffic because of the holiday. But we never felt crowded. The owners were conscientious about following social distancing protocol. The check-in process was outdoors on a covered porch. Everyone wore masks. It is clear that the owner/operator cares about the way he manages his business and the quality of the boats he rents. We would definitely rent from Carters Lake Marina again.

We brought our boat and rented a cabin here. Very nice and everything we needed. The cabin came with a slip for our boat. Service was above and beyond! We will be back for sure!

The boat was great and in fine condition. It was new. The lake is stunningly beautiful. Every other boat rental place I called were booked solid. (Lanier, Allatoona) There was a reason this place had rentals available. They are extremely uptight and condescending. There are a litany of rules telling you what you can’t do, where you can’t go and how you must act. If you want to be treated like a child in a nanny state this rental company is for you. Since they were the only place on any lake near Atlanta that had rentals I kept my mouth shut until we finished our 6 hour trip. They told me before I rented about the rules and I agreed as most were fine. No smoking, grilling, towing etc. However you must stay 50 yards from any shore, they marked off about 25% of the lake as places you couldn’t go. No anchoring, docking, beaching, or tying up to anyone or anything. You can’t apply sunscreen on the boat it has to be done on the dock before you leave. Only 2 coolers are allowed. They strongly recommend you wear closed toe shoes as walking down to the marina is steep. You can only use the restroom at their marina and need to call 5 minutes in advance to go potty. (No joke) They do not want you tying up the boat anywhere they aren’t in control hence the bathroom permission slip. I agreed to this police state because, you know, kids. I called to rent one boat and told them I was going to rent a second for another Family that were coming. However, I told them I would have him call back and rent it separately if that was what they needed. That shut down the conversation as the company owner (a lady from England) got on the phone to say that was not permitted. If you want to rent 2 boats or know someone who is renting on the same day they won’t rent to you or your acquaintance. She later called back to say they would rent to us but that they would double our deposit for our boat and our friends boat. $2000.00 in Charged deposits later we were able to get on the lake. All of the rules stem from the fact that the owners are paralyzed with fear about their rental boats being scratched on the side or bottom of the pontoons. They try to tell you that not anchoring or tying up is no problem as long as you go to a big cove, or a big part of the lake that you won’t drift. This is just entirely false. You will spend roughly half of your time drifting close to the shore. Then the other half will be spent swimming or jumping in the water to stop your boat from going near the muddy bottom. You will be living in fear of coming back with a little mud on your pontoon. Finally, if you are in the rental business scratches, dings, and tears are part of the game. That is why you charge cash deposits. Paranoia and fear are not a good way to run a business, especially when you impose it on your customers. Lighten up Carter’s Lake Marina and you too will be booked solid on a gorgeous weekend.

We had the best time enjoying Carters Lake! We rented a pontoon boat for our family of 6 and spent a full day on the lake. Everyone - from age 3 to age 70 - had a great time. The lake is calm and peaceful and easy to navigate. Denise and Donna made the process so easy! The boat was beautiful and clean, there were plenty of coves where we stopped to swim, and we were blessed with a beautiful day! Definitely a fun, family-friendly, and COVID safe activity! We’d come back again!
