This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

We stayed here with a group of friends that were spread around the campground. The first night, a Friday night, our neighbors uphill had a huge party with bright lights and noise until 2am. I had to go ask them at 12:40 and again at 1:30 to please turn off the lights and be quiet. We go camping to hear... More

It starts right outside the entrance of the Red top mountain state park. It is a 5.6 mile long trail. It is more strenuous than any other trails around. The trail is very well marked and takes you all the way to the Allatoona dam. I would recommend it to people that are pretty fit.

Currently the main camp office and facilities are closed for what appears to be remodeling. I have been here many times in the past, but am getting around to doing a quick review. The main visitor's center is your starting point for most trails. Up the road from the visitor's center you will find the campground office. The visitor's center... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our tent camping experience in sites 45 & 46. Went with family and friends in early October and weather was fantastic. Bugs not too bad. Some gnats and flies around water, but not too bad. The sites were right above the water and the views were phenomenal. Sites were spaced out so you were not right on top... More

This is a great park for all kinds of activities. We frequent the park to conduct Civil Way Re-enactments (on the small scale), Living History demonstrations that depict life before Buick, and just to relax. My daughter was married there last year and the scene, building for the reception, cabin for dressing and parking was perfect for the 80 to... More

We called a month in advance to make reservations. We called the number on the website. While on the phone, we explained that we were meeting friends with a boat, so we needed a site on the water. The woman assured us that would not be a problem. PROBLEM. We arrived to find out that we were assigned to pull... More

This park is close to the interstate and has cable tv. They have several pull thru sites that allow you to leave your tow car attached. It is a great place to stay outside Atlanta but be near enough to visit the city.
