What can I really say about such a beautiful and solitude place. Everyone should visit here. It is especially beautiful at Christmas with all the wreaths and Memorial Day with the flags.

The GA National cemetery is a well designed and maintained final resting place for those who have given of their service and at times, lives for this country and their fellow citizens. It is also fitting that their spouses whose sacrifices are too often unrecognized have a beautiful place there as well.

A beautiful place preserved for those who should be acknowledged!

My wife and I visited on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, and for the record this is about our fifth or sixth trip to Canton, GA. Our first trip was in 2006 when the Cemetery was still in the early stages of development and there were less than one thousand graves. In 2011 we attended an Interment Ceremony for a US Army Captain and veteran of WW ll, impressive ceremony with posting of the colors, Honor Guard and 21 Gun Salue. At present there are about 'fourteen thousand' graves, with an additional average of three per day.

So I would have to say that leaves about 'thirty six thousand gravesites' remaining and the property is being prepared section by section. This is about 800 acres on a Georgia mountain overlooking Altoona Lake and associated streams and rivers, spectacular setting.

We have been privileged to visit Arlington, Punch Bowl in Hawaii, and several Cemeteries in Europe, they all are different with the exception of the fact that they contain the remains of our Service Men and Women from WW ll to the present. I'm not in any hurry but earned a spot due to my Service with the US Navy Jet Fighter Squadron 62 aboard the USS Randolph CVA15

Take a trip to Canton, you won't regret or forget it.

I visited the Georgia National Cemetery with a library book club group, after we had read Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken. It seems a bit strange to be reviewing a cemetery. But, after all, this is a National Cemetery, and so is the final resting place for those who gave their lives that this nation might live. It is beautifully kept, and the land itself is stunning. You will see rolling hills, with neatly trimmed grass, and mountain vistas in the background. You will see shelters...not picnic shelters, but funeral shelters, where friends and family can gather to pay their last respects, even in inclement weather. I learned during my visit that the spouse of a service mor woman is also entitled to be buried in the National Cemetery. Whether it is to save money or is an organizational methodology, the same tombstone will be used for both. Husband on one side, wife on the other. It is altogether fitting and proper to honor those who have fallen in service to our country, and this is a beautiful place in which to do so.

Family did a short stopover to check out the area, spectacular layout and the grounds were maintained/developed beautifully.
Definetly worth a visit to fully appreciate what this portion of property brings to our military personnel.

Have visited the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, several times, the latest in March 2014. Bottom line: as a Navy veteran of Vietnam, my wife and I intend to be buried there.

My brother in law is buried here. The cemetery is well maintained and the the feeling you get going there is respectful. One piece of information you need to know to find someone's grave is to know whether or not the person was cremated. One part of the cemetery is for cremations. Another helpful word for finding graves is the spouse is name is on one side of the marker and the military person's name is on the other. A very worthwhile visit.

This is a relatively new National military cemetery located about 50 miles north of Atlanta. Beautifully built and organized well in the rolling hill side of north Georgia.
I have a close Vet friend that is buried there. There are benches and shelters around for contemplation and prayer. May God bless each and every member of the US military.

The Georgia National Cemetery is a beautifully created site with carefully planned avenues and parking places. The landscape and plantings help to instill a sense of peace and reverence.
This poem, "Requiem" by Robert Louis Stevenson, seems appropriate in closing here.

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
