Great Place for a fun afternoon away
Jul 2020
Beautiful park with a lot of space for the animals. A lot of animals you don't find in a regular zoo and you can see they really take care of the animals here.

We went as a couple and it took us about 2 hours to get through the park.
If you bring kids I would add 1-2 hours since there's a lot of playgrounds and stuff for children throughout the whole park.

You can get a drink and snacks but if you plan to eat at noon here, bring your own picnic.

It's a great choice for an afternoon out and since this a non-commercial park you also support the animals which are all abandoned and saved animals.

If you love animals, this is the place to be!
Aug 2019
De Zonnegloed is such a beautiful project where you can easily spend half a day visiting all the animals and reading their personal stories. This sanctuary is not funded by the government, so a huge amount of respect for the work these people have done and are still doing.

Best animal park I have ever visited

See title.
A park/sanctuary that actually puts the animals on top instead of the decor (looking at you Pairi daiza).

Great!

After a previous evening of consuming Escargots and Oysters at the Bray-Dunes Champagne festival, what better way to spend the afternoon than a trip to Beauvoorde Kasteel, followed by a trip to this wonderful animal Sanctuary!

The place is superbly maintained, and staffed. The animals and birds were a delight.

Recommended!

A little gem! So pleased we happened to find this!
Jul 2018 • Family
We happened to see signs for this sanctuary on the road as we were driving from Ypres to Dunkirk for a day trip to see the operation dynamo museum. Knowing we’d be passing it again on the way back we looked at them website information and it sounded very interesting, particularly since we had an animal enthusiast in our group. We stopped on our way back to Ypres, arriving about 2 hours before closing and we only just had enough time there. You could easily fill a day or at least half a day at this sanctuary. There were a lot more animals than we expected, and we really liked to know the stories behind them and to see them now it nice habitats being really well cared for. Really good find! Just wish some more of their signs were in English too so we could have understood more of the stories, however most of the videos were self explanatory.

Incredible value, great 'zoo'
Aug 2017 • Family
When we were staying in Belgium we were looking for a zoo to visit. There wasn't much choice and plumped for Dr Zonnegloed as we were interested by the 'sanctuary' element - all animals here have been rescued from private owners and other institutions, many in Eastern Europe.

Entry is exceptionally good value for so many animals and species to access. There is plenty of space for all the animals and the site is well mapped and signposted.

We will always return when in Belgium and would recommend anyone else does too.

Fantastic little Zoo
Oct 2017 • Family
Visited outside of the school holidays and we had the place almost to ourselves , but what a superb place it is. The place is well set out, easy access, lots of animals to see and the keepers were all really friendly.

Would definitely recommend a visit, there are lots of picnic tables all around the place as well so if you don’t fancy eating there and take a picnic, there’s lots of places to sit down at. The place is really clean and tidy

Nice gem
Aug 2017 • Couples
We were very surprised by this Well equiped small animal sanctuary. It took us 2,5 hours to get through the whole park at slow pace. Entrance tickets are 15 euro for adults. A little gem very well hidden! All animals were saved from horrible conditions, most shelters also mention where the animals were saved from. By visiting this park, you are sponsoring the shelters for new animals, so there's no reason not to visit this park!
