This looked like the best of the blue ridge options for us, but of 7 “bucket” mining experiences we did over 4 weeks time in N. Ga and Western N.C., this was the worst. The quantity for the $40 bucket (for rockhounds) was decent, but quality was pretty awful. I’ll try to attach a pic, but the only pieces that I might hang on to were a few pretty pieces of orange calcite, sodalite, some moonstone and small pieces of selenite. Most of the stuff not good enough to display or sell in a store; tons of small broken pieces. I will say a family with young boys were there while we were and had a blast going through their $35 buckets, that had rocks, fossils, and a decent size crystal cluster, which was the highlight for the boys, although some of the fossils were mentioned with a “cool!”.

Aska Mining Company is hands down the best place for gem mining in Blue Ridge! The owner is amazing and the kids leave with a huge bag of gems each time we visit. The store is full of treasures and the Iron Bridge offers tasty treats. A must when visiting Blue Ridge!

We visited with our 6,9 and 14 year old. The girls (6 and 14) shared a $30 bucket. Our 9 yr old son is an avid stone/gem collector and did his $30 bucket on his own.
This place is right on the side of the road with a view of the mountains and a cool old-fashioned iron bridge. The brisk air rips through so dress warm.
The employees were so friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. They told the kids a little history about the fossils and stones they were finding. One man even went and opened the trap to recover my sons several stones that he dropped back into the water!
We liked that this experience only took about 2 hours total (including the drive from our cabin). Since we were in town for a relaxing family vacation, it was nice to have a little adventure that didn’t turn into a hectic and busy full day. There’s a general store and restaurant on site as well. We all got hot chocolate and then lunch. We had the zingers (Buffalo chicken tenders with cheese), French fries, peanut butter and jelly and onion rings. The French fries were great - nice and fresh and even had the brown skin on them.
The kids found tons of amazing gems, stones and fossils. My son even found 2 giant geodes in his bucket. Nobody was disappointed. Even the girls who shared a bucket felt satisfied with how much they walked away with.

My husband and I stopped here because I wanted to “mine for gemstones”. The owner was the nicest guy!!! He hung out with us and pretty much helped me pan and sort all the gemstones I found - he and my husband just chatted like old friends while I sloshed around in the water. We are planning on breakfast there tomorrow!

After a great tube ride we walked right across the street to this great mining establishment. The owner was very friendly in helping us get the best bargain and also helped us to make sure we didn't miss any diamonds or rubies. We were a group of eight and we each came away with a bag or two of treasures! This was fun and enjoyed by all ages. I would recommend this place if your looking for treasures too.

Came here to do some “mining” with the kids. The staff member was not wearing a mask so we decided to leave.

We visited 3 different gem mining locations during our trip (want to use the gems/rocks to make a memento from our trip). This was the best place we went to. The young man working here was friendly and shared his knowledge of the rocks/gems that we found. The location is easy to find, literally right along the road side really. Not only were there gems, there were fossils and arrow heads. I enjoyed this place and it is well worth the short drive out of town to get there and have a better experience. Also a great little gift shop!

Stopped in to "pan" for some gems. The gentleman was pleasant, helpful with identifying the stones that we found( we all walked out with 2 bags of "gems"). Mind you the group I was with were all past our 40's and had a great time passing time mining for gems. If you go mining in the Blue Ridge area this is the place to go, "hop" by the liilypad village and go to this mining Company and I think you will enjoy your time there. My only advice is to call as their hours seem not to be "set in stone".

On a recent trip with my family, we stopped here with the 4 “kids”. Mind you, these kids range from 19-22 years so finding something they are all interested in can be a challenge. They had a really good time panning for gems. Staff is entertaining and very pleasant. Highly recommend this activity.

We visited this location as part of our annual summer trip. Our teens range for 19 to 13, all had a blast. The gentleman that assisted us was super nice & very knowledgeable of all stones found during our mining session. We're sure to revisit if we're ever in the area again. Thank you for the great family fun!!
