From start to finish, Green Rinjani has been exceptional in terms of hospitality and service. Green Rinjani's package included pick up, accommodation for the day before the trek and drop off, so we were taken care of throughout! What impressed me more is that the staff were professional and so, so polite. We managed to check out both guesthouses at Senaru and Sembalun, you can't go wrong with either! Senaru guesthouse is newer and has better rooms, and the Sembalun guesthouse has amazing views of Rinjani.
We were a group of 5 and were provided with 2 guides, John and Sahril. Our guides were experienced, supportive, friendly and spoke good English. They care about the environment too and help the porters to pick up trash on the mountain, which is a part of Green Rinjani's initiative that I so much appreciate!
In terms of food and camping equipment, the porters did a splendid job in cooking us hearty, delicious meals and also set up comfortable tents for us to sleep in with proper mattresses and sleeping bags.
The Sembalun 3D2N trek is a relatively challenging one for your average not-so-fit 25 year old male. The second day of the trek got all of us to the point of exhaustion. You have to wake up at 1:30am to push for the summit, go back to base camp for breakfast, descend to Segara Anak lake and have lunch, then climb up to Senaru crater rim for sunset. Whew. Do take a look at their programme for the trek to better prepare yourself. If you're not physically active, I highly recommend to opt for the 4D3N package instead so that you don't have to push yourself too much and can enjoy the trek more.
Also, gear up properly if you're not used to the cold!!! One layer of jacket was not enough for me, your typical Southeast Asian. Spare some extra cash too for the porters and guides, trust me you'll feel like they really deserve it anyway! Oh and bring some snacks.
All in all, Rinjani has so much beauty to offer and is such an amazing experience. The sunset/sunrise from the base camp, summit and crater rim. The vast greenery. Segara Anak lake. And so much more. Go for it!!! And do it with Green Rinjani :)
