Our adventure with Jou Trekking to the second summit of Mount Rinjani was wonderful and we wholeheartedly recommend the tour.

We climbed to the second summit (2D1N departing from Seranu), as we arrived during shoulder season and only had 2 days of time in Lombok. This alternative journey is offered by only a few tour guides and adds something extra to the normally advertised Crater Rim tour. We were a group of 2 however the Jou Trekking team also caters to larger groups.

From the moment we met our guide, Anton, we knew we were in good hands. Anton's great knowledge of the local flora and fauna added depth to our hike, which was most appreciated. He catered to all walking speeds and is fluent in English and Bahasa.

Bar the view (which really speaks for itself), one of the highlights of our trek was the rare sight of the ebony leaf monkey, endemic to the region. We were incredibly lucky to spot these three times during our hike, adding a magical touch to our adventure. Anton highlighted that this was likely due to us walking the track at an unusual time of day (having done the 2nd Summit peak instead of starting the descent earlier).

From a practical perspective, Jou Trekking also covered transport to and from the airport, managed by WhatsApp which was a huge plus for us as it was all included in the package. Additionally, the food provided throughout the trek was delicious and satisfying (tempeh curry, pasta and ayam stirfry), keeping our energy levels high!

One should note, Jou trekking is on the more expensive side for such a hike, however the company takes much of the hassle and thinking out of organisation, making the increased price worth it in our experience.

Finally, one regret is not staying longer in the beautiful Seranu area. This trek has left us eager for more, and we can't wait to explore further and summit next time we arrive in Lombok.

For anyone seeking an educational, sometimes difficult hike experience, we highly recommend Jou Trekking.

We climb Mt Rinjani with Jou Trekking it was awesome! The view superb, the weather extremely kind and sunny. The porters were amazing, what with their speed, stamina and ability to carry heavy loads! The mountain took my breath away. So beautiful, so humbling.. At nightfall, just sipping a cup of hot tea and watch the stars by Danau Segara Anak Lake.. Watching the sunrise at campsite was amazing experience, but watch the sunrise over the whole of Lombok at the summit of Mount Rinjani, now that is mindblowing! Climb Mount rinjani was one of the highlights of our trip to Lombok. Everything was very well organized by Jou trekking we had tons of food and our guide and porters were fantastic. Thanks for a great experience!

We did the 4d 3n rinjani climb.

We were glad we picked Jou.

Before the trip the bookinb process was easy,
just email Jou. Jou was very informative and provided us the details of what needed to bring. Unfortunately one of our members had Covid just before travel and had to cancel, Jou provided us a refund of her deposit.

During the trip, our guide Sultan did a good job bringing us where we needed to go, giving us information and explaining things well to us. He also took special care of one of our members who were a bit slower by staying back with her and giving her more assist and help me latter when I injured my knees. I also loved our 3 potters who were always cheerful and are excellent cook. I have to say in this trip were never hungry.

It was a great trip we made it to the peak, but because our group was a bit slow and it was our own personal group, we could rearrange things with Sultan to ensure we can still travel at our pace ( also being a 4 day 3n trip also helped ).

Rinjani is beautiful, the view and is both serene and surreal, so breathtaking.

Mount Rinjani hike 4 days was amazing adventure.
Our guide Jule was full of information and encouraged us to ask all the questions we could think of. He never once rushed us, allowing each member to walk at their own pace. The porters were incredible. The foods on the trek was some of the best I’ve had while in lombok. We will surely reccomend Jou Trekking to our friends and families back home

One of the coolest experiences!

I set off my 2 day 1 night trek solo with Adi and his 2 porter team
They went above and beyond at every point of the hike, I was full after every meal there was so much food and it tasted amazing.

It was especially great how I cannot speak
Indonesian at all but Adi would take the time to explain what the porters and other guides were saying, even teaching me some Indonesian as we hiked up the mountain.

Being solo I completed the trip a little quicker than expected, so that afternoon after we finished Adi Tok me to a local village where they had some Indonesian stick fighting (crazy). I sat drank rice wine with the locals.

I could not recommend Adi, his porter team and jou trekking enough gave me the absolute full traditional Indonesian experience it was incredible!

We did the private trekking 2D1N to the summit with Meng. What an experience! It was super tough but so worth it. Meng was an amazing guide and made sure that we made it to the summit. Our sleeping equipment was of good quality, and waterproof (we should know as it was pouring). The food was great and they even suprised us with a Coke sometimes.

On the last day Jou booked a private boat for us to take us to Gili T, this was super nice as we would have missed the public ferry.

All in all, I would 10000% recommend to book with Jou Trekking.

With a friend we made the trek 2 days 1 night to climb to the second summit. An amazing experience! Everything was perfect, our Guide Rudi was very caring with us, smiling and good mood at the meeting which made the effort more pleasant. Comfort, good food and quantity, cleanliness (waste collection, which is not the case of all agencies that offer the trek unfortunately...). We recommend without hesitation!

we took the 3 days and 2 nights trip up top, down to lake and crater rim with Jou  trekking and everything was well organized, the camping gear was very good and food we get was delicious.
the trek itself was very demanding, but all the same definitley worth it. Make sure you have the right equipment,  Mr. Jou can lend you jackets, long pants etc. The weather can be bad at the summit, so make sure you're warm enough.
The porters guide were very nice and helpful and they olso pick up rubbish long the trek and we had plenty of good food and drinking water.
other than that, mount rinjani is  beautiful but surrounding the camping sites were very dirty from lots of plastic and trash thrown every where, please clean your mountain once thoughly and than bring down all of your rubbish when you go up to your mountain! otherwise western people will not come anymore I guess if stay dirty

We did a 2-day / 1-night trek (Senaru > Sembulan > Summit) due to time. If we had more time, we probably would have done the 3-day / 2-night, where you hike down the rim into the volcano and lake and sit in natural hot springs.
We went with Jou Trekking. Jou is very friendly and can hike like a mountain goat! He speaks very good English. They provided tent, sleeping gear, food, adn the porter carried it all up for us. We only had to carry a light day pack. Woke up early for the sunrise at the summit. Bring poles, or request them from your travel company. They are very helpful, especially on the final summit with lots of loose rock (every step up is a half step slide down). It was challenging (and I'm an avid hiker/climber/mountaineer), but it was amazing!!! Do it!

The trek was incredibly fun but also quite the challenge. We took private tour package with Jou Trekking, by far the best trekking company for Mt Rinjani hike! We saw so many other trekking companies that didn't take proper care of their hikers, gave them terrible food and left them stranded when they needed help. We felt truly blessed! First of all, our guide Mr. Gede were very friendly, spoke good English and were there to help me when I struggled descending from the summit due to exhaustion and the altitude. Our food was great. While others ate soup noodles for 3 days, we got a variety of fruit, deliciously cooked warm food, snacks, teas and bottled water. We felt taken care of the entire time, I couldn't recommend more. The best thing of all was to have a toilet tent at our camp, which meant that we could easily go to the bathroom and didn't have to find a bush.

One additional reason to choose Jou Trekking is Eco Friendly Trekking company, that they care for the environment and take all of the rubbish back, the guides even collect the rubbish that others have left on the way and at the camps. So if you want to make an amazing experience and have a great time trekking through an incredible landscape, do this tour and choose Jou Trekking
