If you love trekking, you cannot leave this opportunity in Lombok. Overwhelming views during the hole way, pretty tough but even though totally worth it.
The experience with Ability Trekking was simply perfect. Constant and easy communication. You arrange the price from the beginning, including guides, porters and transport from Senaru to the National Park and also to your final destination after the trek with an excellent personal treatment. I made the 2D/1N trekking but the second day I had to take a flight quite early so they organise for me one porter to come with me the whole way back after reaching the summit. I totally recommend it.

Well organized - friendly - great food - good value/money

A few days ago i have done the 3 days/2 nights hiking. It was hard but i would have done it again!

My sister and her boyfriend did the trekking a few years ago also with abul trekking. They were so positive that i decided to book it also with Abul. Since the beginning everything was well organized: enough information about the hike and pick up and drop off service all on time and included. I did not had a walking stick and floves so received one from Abul (you definitely need them).

Respect for my guide Omar and the 2 porters June and Poan. They do this hike around 2 times a week... Make sure you give them a tip at the end as what they do is insane. Carrying all the equipments (on fit flops can you imagine?!). They also made sure there was no trash left, which i appreciate and not all companies do that.

Everything was arranged for me: sleeping matrass, tent, chair, good (and a lot!!) food and drinks. I was only together with one other person however he left earlier so the last 1,5 day i was only with Omar (guide) en Poan (porter). They were really caring and making sure that i was satisfied and had enough food and drinks.

So I would definitely recommend Abul trekking!

Some must haves to take with you (in my opinion):
- sunblock
- small bag (dont bring to much as you dont want to carry it, believe me)
- wind jacket and warm clothes when going to the top and for sleeping
- wett tissues to clean your body (you will see dust everywhere for sure)
- a head light (better than a normal light)
- good shoes!! I had real walking shoes and are worth the money for sure. They are less slippery.
- short and long trouser/legging.
- clean shirt for every day (also one with short sleeves)
- hand gloves and scarf
- camera because the view is amazing

Informative guide and incredible views
Sep 2017 • Couples
We booked the 4d3n trek starting from Sembalun and finishing in Senaru. Abul was very helpful and provided lots of information when we were booking online. He met us and introduced us to our guide Edi on arrival despite it being late when we reached the starting base the evening before we set off on our trek. It was reassuring to have the briefing with a map in advance.

The trek itself is a challenge, but the views you earn are worth it. Edi was a superb guide and spoke good English. He had snacks and soft drinks to keep us going between meals. The terrain is difficult and unsteady, so I recommend one or two walking poles for the ascent to the summit in particular. You will need a headtorch for the dark climb up, and something to cover your mouth as it is very dusty and windy up there. I recommend sunglasses to wear on the way back down the ridge to base camp as the dust clouds fly up as you slide back down.

The food is nutritious and filling - we ate banana pancakes, nasi goreng, roasted chicken, mie goreng and spaghetti bolognese. The porters are incredible and carried all the cooking equipment and tents for us, and were extremely quick at setting up and great company. They were catching fish with their bare hands at the lake which was impressive! The lake is pretty chilly so you may want to take a well-earned dip in the hot springs instead, which was a 10min walk from the lake campsite. There are two - one for local use which is a scorching 60 degrees Celcius, or one for tourists which is 40 degrees Celcius.

The tents were great and kept out the wind when we were camping at the windy base camp on Day 1. The sleeping bags are very warm which is necessary on the first night especially, where temperatures dip to below 5 degrees Celcius. Our porters provided pop-up chairs to sit on along with a tarpaulin mat which was great for our weary legs at rest/food stops. There is a small zip-up tent for privacy when using the toilet, which is a hole dug in the ground but it does the job.

If you're looking for a responsible eco-tour, this company fits the bill. Not only did we leave no litter, but Edi personally collected wrappers that other hikers had discarded throughout the trek. I highly recommend a trek with Abul.

The service provided was excellent. He took his time to explain the different trekking options, helped us choose the best one for us, and tailored it to fit our itinerary.

Our guide had great English, the porters were friendly, the equipment was good, and the food and water was plentiful. We saw several other groups that didn't have enough water, had 3 people to a tent, were hungry, didn't have the warm clothes they were promised, etc etc etc... But we had zero of these issues. Abul Trekking was professional, friendly, and helpful throughout, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Abultrekking is an excellent company to climb Mt Rinjani
Sep 2016 • Solo
We had friends recommend Abultrekking from previous years and in their honor Abul himself was my guide, along with Alam as the porter. I was deeply moved as Abul had not climbed in over 5 years as he is too busy running his company. I did this climb by myself and Abul and Alam made sure I had an expereince of a lifetime. Was it hard.....absolutely.....was the scenery spectacular.....absolutely. Abul providing all the necessary gear so all I had was a day pack for personal gear. The food was outstanding.....one of the best chicken curry dishes I have ever had!! Abul is very personable and we had some great discussions on all sorts of topics!! I highly recommend Abul and his company to climb Mt Rinjani!!

Worth it, make sure you reach the summit before sunrise!
Sep 2016 • Solo
I did the 3 days 2 nights tour to Rinjani, it was amazing!!!! really hard as well.
Nice guide and porters always with a smile in their faces and trying to help us. The food was really good and we had plenty of it, however you can bring some snacks to eat while you are walking (they provide as well but sometimes the guide wasn't with us).
All the camping gear was good, it was quite cold outside but the sleeping bag was good enough to keep you warm.
One thing I really appreciate was that they kept all the rubish and carried it back to Senaru. The mountain is so dirty and full of rubish and I found it disgusting, so I was happy that this company tried to keep it less dirty.
About the organisation, the second day they woke us up at 2,30ish am to start at 3am our way to the summit, and because is 4hours at least we didn't make it before the sunrise (6:15 more or less). Maybe it was a mistake so just make sure that you wake up at least at 1,30 and start at 2 am your way up.
As other people say, it is a hard trekking. The hot springs and the lake in the 2nd day we're nice but I'm not sure if I would recommend it because that day we ended up walking like 12hours (up, down and up again) and it was too much!

In conclusion, I definitely can recommend this company and this trekking, just make sure you start really early morning the second day and think twice if you want to to the 3 days/2 nights or 2days/1 night.

Must Do, but not for the faint hearted!
Aug 2016 • Couples
We were recommended to Abul Trekking by a friend. It I s a locally owned and run company, not like many in Senaru which are owned and run by non locals.

From our initial communication until we met Abul we found him to be efficient and well organised and this also carried through from our collection at the airport to the conclusion of our trek! Abul was incredibly friendly with nothing being too much trouble and this was the same for our guide, Eddie and our two porters. The equipment (tent, sleeping bags, etc) were all in good condition and the food was to a high quality, especially when you consider it was carried up to 2200m and prepared on a mountain.

However, be under no illusions, it is hard work! We consider ourselves to be relatively fit but you will trek to 3726m, with the second day starting at 2.30am to reach the summit before sunrise. You will climb on highly eroded paths, volcanic shale and be covered in dust but it is absolutely worth it as both the view and experience are amazing!

Of all the companies we saw (& there are many), we would have no hesitation in recommending Abul and would certainly use his friendly and efficient team again! Must do :)

Thank you,
David & Lisa

Dishonest and greedy travel agents
Sep 2016 • Couples
We had a great 3-day trekking with a nice guide and a good porter-team, however we got screwed by the travel agent who sold us the tour (Aman in Kuta, Lombok). For people who want to hike with a group of 3+ people, there were two options: (1) the standard one and (2) the pricier one with thicker matraces (5 cm), better tents, more/nicer food (examples were cookies, soft drinks and spaghetti). We chose the pricier option (2), however we were placed in a group with standard equipment. When we realised the mistake at the beginning of the trip, we called the travel agent. We explained that we either wanted to be placed in the right group or get the difference of the price back, but he acted as if he didn't understand our problem and told us that other people paid more for the same (but they didn't).

Another thing we didn't like were the poor working conditions of the porters. We wish they could at least get a better payment.

Other than that, we enjoyed the trip. The sunrise on the summit is worth the tough hike up there in the very early morning. The hot springs were nice but the trail to the springs and back was bad and the additional 5 hrs hiking were too much to be enjoyable after climbing the summit (6hrs) on the same day. In retrospective, we would choose a 2-day trip including the summit.

Great tour company to scale Mt Rinjani
Sep 2015 • Couples
Abul Trekking took care of equipment, porters and guides and gave us a great trip up Mt Rinjani. They tailor the trip to the needs of the party, provide tents, mats and decent sleeping bags (others do not) and their team leave the campsite clean from debris (others do not). Highly recommend them, friends who went with them the previous year recommended them to us.

My dream came true with Abultrekking
Aug 2015 • Friends
Trekking mount Rinjani has been one of our dreams which we finally achieved in last June. Everything was so amazing, the scenery and journey. That was made possible because of an assistance of a young experienced guide, Ihwan, and two porters who accompanied us during the trek. Despite their young appearance, these people have made our trek comfortable and indeed left such a great memory for us especially fro beginning trekkers like us.

I need to share this experience because I believe that there many of people out there who similar dream, yet they are not sure which trekking company to organize their trek. If you are searching for a caring guide and well cooked food during your trek, for quite affordable price, then I would strongly reccommend abultrekking, a local trekking company.
