This had been closed for a private event (wedding?) when we were here previously. The admission price is quite reasonable for seniors. There was an exhibit by a very fine artist in bronze and driftwood. The extensive grounds are full of masterful bronze statues. We were very glad that we had made the time to come back to Winter Park specifically to see this museum.

This is a hidden gem with polite, helpful and passionate staff who I believe may be volunteers. The story of Polasek is heart-warming, the museum is owned by a foundation and guests support its continuation. Extra-ordinary quality sculptures, particularly of the anatomical features of the human body. Great guide took us around the house and explained the exhibits. Compared with other Orlando admission prices this is exceptional value. Make this part of a day visit to Winter Park, there are lots of other gems in this area, a refreshing break from the main tourist trail in Orlando.

This is a very small museum with a nice sculpture garden. Polasek was a Czech immigrant who came to America and eventually was a teacher at the Chicago institute of art. The museum was highlighting gilded art (gold leaf embellishment) at the time of our visit and it was very interesting. The main attraction was the garden area which houses many of Polasek's works of art. $12 admission fee. Allow an hour or so for a visit. Free parking in their lot.

We arrived on a day when the tour guide was sick, and apparently you can only visit by joining the tour. There was a small indoor gallery visible from the front desk, but after a lengthly and confusing explanation as to why we could not visit due to the tour guide being sick, I thought they would allow us to pay half price to view the little gallery, but no deal. Maybe the next time we are in Florida. Tip: Call ahead to make sure the tour guide is working, and what times the tours are offered.

This is a great exhibit whether you are into art or not. There is a museum of sculptures, Polasek's home, and a sculpture garden of Polasek's sculptures in beautiful garden settings.
Denise gave an informative tour of his home and narrated about Polasek's life. This tour is a great cap off of a visit to Winter Park.
Parking is easy and free. Admission is very reasonable. It takes 1-2 hours to see this attraction. Probably not great for children. Walking is easy.

We were in the right place but the wrong time when we visited Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens. We arrived before the museum opened and were unable to go back later; however, we did like what we saw outside. The building was lovely, and the sculptures were very nice. We hope to go back some day.

We didn’t know much about Albin Polasek before this visit. We discovered that he was an accomplished sculptor, artist and much more. His legacy is alive and thriving at this museum. The grounds are peaceful and dotted amongst the beautiful surroundings are his magnificent sculptures. Our docent Denise, was informative and truly admires the man and his works. She told us many stories about the man and the pieces in his collection, so that his interesting life came alive thanks to her commentary. This was the first trip to a local museum we went to in over a year, because of the pandemic. It was delightful and worth the wait!

We loved the wonderful sculptures in the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens. The gardens are filled with beautiful flowers and trees that provide a delightful setting for the wide range of exquisite sculptures. Some are quite large; others are smaller. As we walked through this amazing garden, we caught glimpses of Lake Osceola which it borders. A big part of the allure of this Museum is the intriguing Polasek story of the life, home and studio of the sculptor who lived here and created such a wide array of beautiful art. We highly recommend it when you are in the Winter Park area.

Highly recommended!!
All the way from Tampa, we’re spending Valentine’s Day weekend in Winter Park at a quaint downtown Winter Park hotel. This is a wonderful museum right on the lake and just a 10 minute walk fro downtown. The artist was born on February 14 so on his birthday there is no admission otherwise it was only five dollars. It’s not docent guided, so you can take your time. The gardens are beautiful but it is is winter so not in full bloom.

We visited the Polasek Museum, arriving just before the morning tour at 1030. The guided tour goes into the Polasek home, and lasts about one hour. The tour covers Polaske the person, and Polasek the artist. Polasek built the home when he moved from Chicago to Winter Park. The home is not large, and most of it is taken up with the large, two-story studio. His art is interesting, and also the objects he admired and collected (for example, Southwest Indian pottery). A lot of the art is classical Christian art; he was raised Catholic and two brothers were priests. One reason his art is not more widely known is that he produced traditional art at a time when many artists were experimenting with other approaches (Impressionism etc). One impressive piece in the studio is his gilt plaster model of Christ on the Cross, designed for a church. After the house tour, we walked around the lake-side grounds, which have many examples of his sculpture. Again, many items are traditional Catholic. For the tour allow one hour in the house, and 30-45 minutes in the garden. Free parking is available on site.

What’s the best footwear for the gardens tour?
Written March 15, 2021
Comfortable shoes or sneakers. There is a lot of walking in the gardens and on the tour.

Is there a place to eat near the museum other than the restaurants on Park Ave? Doesn't need to be fancy at all. Thanks.

Hi Renee,
If you head east from the museum (turning left instead of right when you leave), you'll find plenty other restaurant options.

It was $4 for seniors. I believe the admission price is on their website. It's often under "Plan your visit."
