Located just about 5 miles south of Sun City, FL, off route 301. During this visit, we went to the north trails, just north of the Little Manatee River. If you are going too fast you will miss the entrance. Here you have two loops, about 3 miles each. Both loops offer the chance to walk along the north side of the river. Walk both loops and you complete a 6.2 miles hike. This is a rough trail with no facilities.

We loved our campsite the privacy is really nice! Rangers are kind and helpful. Clean park. Those leaving one star reviews due to covid restrictions are harming this park unnecessarily. We hiked a really nice trail right by the campground!

We were camping here for a weekend. Its about 1 hour from our house. The campsite was nice, it was raining most of the weekend. We stayed at a pet friendly site, the bathrooms were older but clean, the campsite itself was high and dry. We were able to drive around the park and visit some of the attractions. The paddle boat ride was fun, although this time of year we didn't see many alligators. We were not interested in renting canoes, kayaks or bicycles. However, the rentals were not open for some reason. Personally I would NEVER kayak Myakka River. Too many alligators. Personal preference. The staff and camp rangers were friendly and very helpful with questions we had. I would recommend camping here but bring a bike or golf cart. Very reasonably priced. There are also more expensive drive through sites available for RVs. We were in a smaller RV.

We cannot believe that kayak/canoe rentals and the playground were not available! The excuse was that they didn’t have enough staff to sanitize them. This is an absolute shame that when we can go to stores and restaurants and touch 1000’s of items not “sanitized”, and use our own judgement to weigh the risks, you cannot allow 1/2 and full day rentals or a playground that is in 90°-100° weather. This is an utter shame! The restrooms & showers are open and they are only cleaned twice a day! Benches and picnic tables are sat on and used by different families throughout the day and they are not sanitized between uses! We will never ever return to this park. There is absolutely NOTHING to do. WE ARE IN PHASE 3. WHY ARE THESE AMENITIES NOT OPEN???? This park has a lake and river running through it and not a single decent fishing dock. When children can fish free w/out a license, you would think this would be an obvious necessary amenity to promote family camping?? The amphitheater was so dilapidated and unkept that it was obvious no programs had taken place there in a long long time. What a huge disappointment this park was. In addition, you have fees to book and then your fees to cancel regardless of whether you cancel 2 months versus 2 days out is distorted and unfair. When the parks change their customary amenities, programs and events, it is no longer the same agreement entered into and should allow for cancellations without penalties.

Went for a hike here today. We live close by and thought it would be a good way to get out. What a disappointment. We entered the hiking trail at Fl Rt 301. Shortly after we got onto the trail, we came across some planking and small bridges over some wet areas. Many of the boards were rotten and some had fallen. My foot went through a plank, but fortunately, I wasn't hurt......but I very easily could have been. Some of these planked areas ended in a large tangle of roots and mud, where a misstep could easily result in a turned ankle. Nonetheless, we pushed on. At several points, the trail was completely obscured and we had to guess which way to go. That was not at all comforting. The maps provided at the trail head were not very good, either. We ended up turning back when we reached a section that was completely underwater with no way around it. I do not fault the park for this, but just an observation for those who may choose to take a hike here. Be ready for the unexpected. Nice scenery, but the poor trail maintenance ruined what might have been a much better experience. We've been to many of the parks and trails in the area and the trails here were by far the worst. And it wasn't even close. We will not go back
