As other reviewers have said, Bernie is great - passionately interested in and knowledgeable about snorkelling, eco issues and the landscape and history of the area. He offers very small group trips, max of 6 people (in our case it was 4 one time and just the 2 of us another), picks up from hotel/resort and shows you a bit of the English Harbour sights on way to Galleons Bay to snorkel from the beach. He is considerate about his guests, will teach and reassure new comers and help more experienced develop their skills eg diving to wrecks. He also runs bespoke trips to fit in with your interests (he took us to Stingray city where he used to work so we had our personal guide away from the crowds and did some sightseeing including Shirley Heights and the Dockyard on the way back for more snorkelling). He also took us for hike in Nelson Dockyard national park showing us spectacular views and strange cacti. He was generous with time and advice (happy to recommend other operators eg the Eco tour which we took following his recommendation and were very pleased we did so).
His fees are very reasonable especially if you need picking up from somewhere as taxis prices are exorbitant.

Bernie picked us up at the Verandah resort and spent time getting to know our level of experience etc. and explaining his goal which was to provide the most enjoyable snorkel trip. He does small private excursions, ours was 4 people , instead of the crazy overcrowded snorkel trips we’ve been to before in Mexico and other islands.
His love and respect for nature is immediately obvious. I had never snorkelled for 2 hours straight so I was a bit nervous but he assured me he has a buoy to hang on to if I were to need a rest.
He took us to Galleon bay where we saw several beautiful turtles and many fish during a leisurely trip all the way out to the Pillars of Hercules. I couldn’t believe how far we went and I was totally calm and not the least bit tired!
After, he drove us to Nelson’s dockyard where he spent several hours showing us around and enjoying lunch with us. He genuinely loves meeting people and sharing his love of Antigua.
Can’t wait to get the photos he also provides at no extra charge! He is the most genuine guide I’ve ever met and obviously he has to make money as this is his livelihood but the dollar is not his main motivator.
Definitely book with Bernie; he will provide a very educational experience.

We spent a morning snorkelling with Bernie at Snorkelling Antigua at Galleon Beach.
Bernie is a first-class instructor, gave us good a good briefing on what we could expect to see and was really patient and encouraging with our two children (6 & 4) who we are sure will now have much greater confidence in snorkelling thanks to Bernie.
Bernie is very familiar with Galleon Beach and was able to show us so many features, including a boat wreck and local reef where we found barracuda, turtles and octopus among many others. Our highlight of the trip.
By the time we arrived home (24 hours later) Bernie had sent us a file of photos and a 10-minute video from his underwater camera which serves a lovely souvenir of our trip.
Can't recommend highly enough - thanks again Bernie!

After seeing all of the wonderful reviews, I felt this snorkeling excursion was our best bet for the few hours we had in Antigua. Bernie met us at the cruise pier and drove us to English Harbour. He's a safe driver and gave us a lot of great information about Antigua along the way. My mother, not a swimmer, was very well accomodated and treated with a lot of respect while the three of us swimmers went snorkeling with Bernie. Such a lovely experience! He knows the area very, very well and knows where to show you interesting marine life, a shipwreck and if time permits, a brief swim to the Pillars of Hercules (which we did). He went at the pace of our group and always made sure we were safe, comfortable, and at ease. He was fantastic with our family and I'm sure he would be great at handling at any other group of people as he has many years of experience doing so. He showed us how to act around the sea turtles so that we would respect their space and not spook them and, thus, get longer turtle viewing time. We feel like we got a richer, more personalized experience than we could have had on a cruise-offered excursuion. I highly, highly recommend Bernie!!

We have been on several snorkeling trips, and expected this one to be the same - get on a boat with lots of people, travel to a reef, and snorkel for an hour and ride back to shore. This experience was amazingly and wonderfully different!
We met up with Bernie and one other couple at a marina. We were esxpecting him to pick us up in a boat, but instead, we had coffee and got to know each other a bit, then drove a few miles to Galleon Bay (stopping on the way to see the bay from high above the beach). When we got to the bay, he proceeded to take equipment out of the back of his car, and that was when we realized....there is no boat!
Instead, we took swim fins, snorkels and masks to the beach, and left everything else in the car. We literally waded into the water, put on our gear, and swam out into the bay, with Bernie in the lead. What a great adventure he took us on! He showed us octopi, sea urchins (and let us hold one in our hands), sea turtles, a shipwreck....and while we stayed on the surface, he would dive repeatedly to point things out for us that we otherwise would have never seen. It was just amazing. This guy can swim like a fish, and his enthusiasm is contagious. He would literally laugh and say "guys, come quick, you've got to see this!" and it was obvious that he was excited to share his knowledge and love of the sea with us.
We were in the water for about two hours, and it was so much fun! When we were done, he took us to lunch at a local stand that looked pretty rough, but had the most amazing lamb schwarma! He even ordered ahead so it would be ready when we got there.
Bernie is a fun, warm, friendly and passionate guy, and he put the icing on the cake of the best snorkeling adventure ever. If you ever get to Antigua, look him up and get in the water with him. He is simply the best!

Outstanding afternoon snorkelling with Bernie.
Efficient communication via email to book and arrange pickup at our hotel. Short drive to the Galleon Beach area during which Bernie made sure we got to know each so that our snorkelling experience met our expectations and that we understood safety requirements. Bernie is very friendly and professional and makes his clients feel comfortable enough to trust him as he guides you in the water. His approach is calm and reassuring. I had trouble with my (own) mask in deep water and he was very helpful in solving the issue. We saw lotsa of marine life (turtles, fish) a shipwreck, coral reef and truly enjoyed our afternoon. The area - Galleon beach - is a quaint mini village with restaurant / tiki bar and rum academy where you can learn to make your own maple rum. beside English harbour. It was fun to debrief at the restaurant with a beer and watch the sunset together. The ride back to our hotel was fun and was filled with laughs and great stories. We highly recommend Bernie as a snorkelling guide and providing a great service.

Without a doubt, the highlight of our trip to Antiguq was a snorkeling lesson with Bernardo and his excellent assistants! My husband and I went to Antiguq determined to learn to snorkel properly. Previously, we had snorkeled from group boats that offered poor equipment and no instruction with the usual 15 minutes at each spot. This time we came with our own gear, and asked Bernardo to teach us the basics of snorkeling from the shoreline instead of on a boat. (We had gotten his name from people who had been staying at our hotel and had taken a more adventuresome snorkeling trip with him.) He agreed and took us to Galleon Beach, which was an excellent place to learn since there was so much to see underwater just a few feet from the shore. First of all, since we traveled with Bernardo during COVID, we noticed that he was extremely careful to keep us and his staff safe. We all sanitized before entering the van and wore masks while driving. He was very careful about contact and cleanliness. Second, he gave thorough instructions and met us at our skill level. We had never used fins in our previous trips, so my husband and I took some time getting used to them, and Bernardo gave excellent instruction without ever forcing us to go beyond our comfort level. Because of the safe environment he created, we quickly acclimated and he led us to deeper waters where we saw hermit crabs, parrot fish, star fish, an octopus, gorgeous turtles, and several boat wrecks where schools of fish darted through rusted hulls. Adding to the comfort level was the presence of Bernardo's assistants who were not only great help in the water, but wonderful to talk to on the ride through Antiguq, where we learned a great deal of history about the island. I am so excited to go snorkeling again because of what we learned on this trip. Bernardo is highly knowledgable and very kind. I'd highly recommend taking a trip with his company, and my husband and I hope to do so again in the following year.

Wow what a great experience. I was not at all confident that I would be able to snorkel and was quite anxious but Bernie was amazing so calm and reassuring me throughout. He provided me with a full face mask which meant I did not have the worry about trying to breathe and keep afloat. He stayed with me throughout and gave me a float which was attached to him to hold onto. We saw some amazing sites like turtles, stingray, ship wreck and lots of fish! My husband was confident to explore a short distance from us as he had previous experience. The whole experience from collecting us at the port to showing us the sites of the island along with a stop off at Viv Richards cricket stadium and also the beautiful English harbour where we saw the amazing private boats. Bernie is obviously a well known and well liked person as everyone had time to acknowledge him!
Thank you Bernie for you kindness and patience.

If there were six stars Bernie would deserve them! He took us on a two hour snorkeling excursion and taught us to move slowly and observe. His capacity to find sea turtles, rays, and schools of fish is remarkable, and his patience and guidance made it not only my best time snorkeling but the highlight of our 16 days in Antigua. His joy in is work is infectious. Contact him!!!

My adult daughter and I had an amazing full day excursion on Feb. 21 thanks to Bernie’s commitment to showing us a great time and listen to our preferences. We requested a drive around to see the uniqueness of Antiqua. We checked out the super yachts in the harbor. Next we went on to snorkel. I have some physical issues and Bernie was more than patient and attentive to me but I chose to sit it out. Bernie snorkeled with my daughter for two hours showing her ship wrecks, different fish and sea creatures! She loved it and felt totally at ease and safe with Bernie. When the boats full of tourists pulled up to Sting Ray City, we got out of our private boat with ease. Bernie was at our side assisting us with feeding and telling us information about the beautiful creatures! Loved it! Lastly we headed to Turtle Island, a sanctuary for the large turtles…..all 48 of them coming to eat carrots!
Bernie is flexible, listens and is truly interested in being the best guide possible! We highly recommend him!
As an added bonus….Bernie will be sending us a video of our day!
