A Hidden Gem

We have travelled and celebrated as far as Bangkok and Ibiza, but the experience one can find here in this unassuming club in West Palm Beach is truly extraordinary. From its design you can easily make the mistake that it is a gothic bar so it must have violently screaming musicians and mosh pits. And perhaps on the right night, that is what you may find. However, last night the music was the high energy, melodic, upbeat classics like "Paper Planes" by MIA , Fall Out Boy's "Sugar, We're going down" & "Pursuit of Happiness" by Kid Cudi. It is not uncommon to see a predominant group of people drawn to certain clubs but last night you had all walks of life dancing and enjoying themselves without any pretense. A memorable point was stepping back with my reasonably priced drink and taking in the scene; watching the silhouettes of strangers dancing on the stage to "Dancing on my Own" by Robyn, the giant disco ball beaming out light to all points of the club, illuminating the array of different faces entranced by the moment while dancing together.

Event hosting is chaotic, rude bartender

(Can't use profanity, oh boy)

Didn't cut at capacity so the joint was overflowing, stood at the bar inside for 35 minutes before a bartender even looked in my direction to help me or anyone else.

Said I'd been standing there so long while music is blaring in my ears (I'm hard of hearing) and I couldn't hear or understand what he saying when (I believe) he asked me what I wanted.

He promptly told me "I don't (f-word) care," turned and helped someone else. It was extremely busy and loud, he was just as miserable as everyone else, but I was trying to tell him I couldn't hear him and he was just blowing me off and being super rude. I expected a wait but not to be told to basically get (f-word) because he simply felt like being nasty.

Respects music is average but it's full of hipsters who have massive egos because of social media. I've never seen so much PBR in my entire life.

I have MANY punk, ska and other rock shows. Rocky Horror Picture Show ( with all the old school people from Carefree <3 Love you guys and gals <3 ). Goth nights, 80's prom nights, plus a david Bowie memorial recently. Great and friendly staff and cute little patio.

Decent venue

Caught Velvet Acid Christ here Nov 15th. The place is easy enough to find on a well lit street, caught a cab so I can't tell you anything about the parking. The stage is small and the sound system and lighting was alright for it's size. Not many places to sit and socialize inside, it's basically set up for live performances with plenty of standing room. There is some space outside. The bathrooms were clean and had attendants (bring a tip!). I thought the drinks were a bit pricey ($6 for bottled beer is ok but $11 for Baileys on ice?!) No coat check so you'll be packing whatever you come with.

"RSC" or Respect's, as it is know by the local's, is a cultural icon! It has stood the test of time and survived multiple economic downturns and presidents and it keeps on pumping out cool music after 25 years! Yes, there are some very "eclectic" people who patronize this bar, but in my opinion, that makes for better people watching. A cool place for cool people!

umm.... I would not go there if I were you. Creepy people, music is ridiculously loud, smokey, did I mention sketchy? I will never go there again, I suggest you find a place with a tiny bit more class, IMHO, but do what you feel is right.

very indie and sooo much fun
I always have a good time when I go to "Respect's" .. the music is great, the energy is so awesome and best of all you can really break loose and dance! It's more than just a night club... the best nights (i think) to go are on Thursday and Saturday nights! Better music on Thursday, however on Saturday more room to dance.
Usually on Thursday they have a band playing outside too. If you have a chance really check it out... i really think you would have a good time. Drinks aren't to expensive and usually entry is FREE
