Don't miss going down the Hillsborough River! We stayed at Hillsborough River State Park and reserved 2 canoes for 9 am 4 hour trip starting at John B Sergeant. Lamont and the rest of the staff were excellent, equipment in good shape, map helpful. We had 4 who qualified for senior discount on Tuesday. The number of birds, alligators and turtles we saw on the peaceful river was amazing. We only saw one other canoe plus school kids at Nature's School. Birds included Night crown heron, roseate spoonbills, curlew, Woodstork, as well as many Great and little blue herons, Ibis, egrets, hawks, anhinga. Highly recommend this trip.

We saw plenty of gators and river was moving nicely so we could just steer for a good part of it. Staff were instructive and friendly.

My girlfriend and I were in Zephyrhills visiting my parents and was told about this place. We like to kayak and the opportunity to see some gators was very appealing to us. We did the 2 hour, 4 1/2 mile kayak. I literally could have reached out and touched some (never do this lol). We were shocked that we didn't have to sign some sort of death or dismemberment waiver before heading out. It was $46. Each for the 2 hours and worth EVERY penny. We WILL do this again next time we go there for sure!!

This is our favourite place in Florida. I have been three times already and would go again. There is so much wildlife along this river: alligators and birds galore! Most of the gators just lie in the sun, once and a while you will see one swimming or moving into the water from the shore. We paddle the trip from Sargent Park to Trout Creek Park with a stop half way for bathrooms at Morris Bridge Park. The leisurely paddle took just under 4 hours.

This is a wonderful and relaxing escape to a pristine and unspoiled area. Was sunny so plenty of 4' to 10' foot gators out napping. Lots of various birds, turtles but mostly, after the first few turns it's just you and the river. Have done the short trip to the first takeout, which is about 2-1/2 hours, four times now and every time Mike and his staff is very helpful and pleasant and get you off to a nice start. You can make this as short or long as you want as there is a second takeout which can add another hour or two. Come springtime, the flowers will start blooming giving a whole new look to the trip. This is wild Florida at it's finest, regardless of when you go.
