About
Hello and welcome to Florida Keys Shallow Water Flats Fishing. Are you ready to fish the gin clear flats of Islamorada, Key Largo and the Everglades in the Florida Keys? Come on down! I'm an amicable and patient guide who will work hard to make your day on the water a success. I have lived and fished in the Keys for over 42 years and have been guiding fisherman just like you on the flats of the Florida Keys for over 34 of those years. Whether you choose to fish for tailing bonefish and redfish or giant tarpon, I assure you an enjoyable, interesting and exciting day in the Florida Keys. Though I primarily sight fish for these gamefish, we can fish for easier targets as well if your skills are not as high as your expectations. For the novice fisherman, I'll provide friendly fly fishing or light spinning tackle instruction. For the accomplished angler I can help to fine tune your casting skills. Expert? Our game fish should provide quite the thrill and challenge you're looking for.

We have visited Key Large for several years and we never miss an opportunity to fish with Capetian Barry Hoffman. We have fished for just about everything and we find each new experience better than the last. With 40 years of experience, we feel safe and in good hands. Reliable and punctual; he communicates well when booking your trip and getting you on-board.

His fishing talent is amazing and he is great at finding fish, teaching you how to fish if you need some help or putting season anglers in the best position possible,

We highly recommend Florida Keys Flat Fishing

The booking experience was great, Capt Barry worked around our changing schedule (due to Covid) and found a date for us to get out and fish during my week in Islamorada. I was really determined to fly fish and to catch a tarpon and snook to check off the bucket list. The weather forecasted for the day of the trip wasn’t ideal for fishing, especially fly fishing by any means, 20+ mph winds leading up to and on the day of the trip made some areas unfishable and I thought it would be a pretty challenging day. Well the next morning I was pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to the first spot and there were tarpon rolling everywhere. Capt. Barry’s ability to read the water and conditions are second to none. He seems to know every inch of the keys backcountry and has an incredible knowledge base of the fishery. He also can drive the hell out of a boat in some choppy seas. We fished a variety of areas and I got such a great display of what the keys have to offer despite the tough conditions. He worked all day poling through wind to offer me plenty of opportunities. His patient attitude and instruction on the boat Is exactly what you want in a fishing guide and I honestly couldn’t have asked for anything else. I’ll be looking forward to getting back on the water with him.

My dad, brother, and I went out with Captain Barry and had the best fishing of our lives! We caught over sixty fish and got to take home two for dinner. It was an experience I will never forget. Barry was very helpful when showing us all about the fish in the flats and different techniques on how to catch them. It was amazing and I would recommend him for fishermen of all levels; it was worth every penny!

My 12 year old son and I had the great pleasure of chartering Cqpt. Barry Hoffman's flats fishing services the other day. Although weather was suspect and we were informed that we would get rained on at some point, we decided to keep the reservation and go for it. So glad we did. I was ironically trying to make things right for my son, after getting my entire family sea sick a few years prior, on an off-shore trip I got them to go on, so despite the threat of rain, a lot was on the line. It was important to me to get my son to trust me again about how great fishing on a boat and just being out on the water can be. The morning started out clear and sunny. We motored out about 45 minutes to our first spot, on his small, clean, smooth, fast and agile skiff, learning about the bay along the way. Once we stopped, immediately upon casting, we started catching sea trout. Barry was excellent with instructing my son and I on proper casting/reeling form, and was very patient with us as we tried to get it down. What an amazing experience it was to be doing this out on the gorgeous, uncrowded bay, in the mild morning son, with a light breeze, etc. After catching quite a few fish, Barry took us to a different spot to try our hands at snook. Seeing my son catch (and release) 2 of these formidable fish was the high point of this trip and a proud moment for me. Then the rain clouds came, and unlike the ones earlier, these stayed. Being a pro, once the lightning started, Barry decided to do the smart thing and head back. The rain was pretty intense and despite that, bundled up in a rain jacket, my son hung in there as we made our way back, Barry navigating around the scarier part of the storm. It stopped raining just as we got back into the Tavernier creek area. The ride back through the creek was very pleasant and when we pulled into the slip, all sorts of mangrove snapper and parrot fish were below the boat, adding to the trip ending on a really high note. I think that this trip was the perfect blend of incredible conditions at first, successful fishing, fantastic company and guidance, father-son bonding and even a little character-building "adventure" on the way back. If you are looking for a flats fishing charter that is really easy to understand, not too macho or too salty, is very patient, very professional, very knowledgeable and is someone who really respects the bay and the fish, go with Barry! If you are already and avid fisherman, I'm sure he will add to your knowledge banks and get you right on the fish. If you are just starting out or are an infrequent fisherman like me, his humble demeanor, patient approach and kind spirited nature will be really appreciated, i'm sure. I most definitely recommend him!

While no guide can guarantee a great fishing experience, this one is as close as you can get. I’ve used Captain Barry three times (out of nine excursions) and I can tell you with confidence Captain Barry is the best guide in the Florida Keys.

His knowledge of the Flats combined with his years of experience and passion for conservation make for an educational experience. Trust me when I say, this is as close to a guarantee as you can get.

Fished for snook reddish trout with Capt Barry. Barry was on time, Knowledgeable of the water and put us on fish.
Polite, respectful and didn’t smoke.
It was a full boat and he worked to keep bait on everyone’s line and get the fish off quickly.
We enjoyed the time with him and will be back.

Barry Hoffman is an impressive, superior, fishing guide. First, he was able to find the fish we were looking for based on is unsurpassed knowledge of the area. The word “encyclopedic” comes to mind in terms of his knowledge of Florida Bay and the Upper Keys. From my experience with him he is a true artisan of his craft and, as a bonus, he enjoys what he does.

More importantly, great guides understand what it takes to consistently provide people with a pleasurable experience. He has the ability to immediately understand your relative experience on the water and adapt to your strengths and limitations. I am an experienced fisherman but have been away from it for years. To say that I was “rusty” would be an understatement and, as a result, I made rookie mistakes. Barry was patient and courteous in the way he gave instructions. He worked diligently to get us in position only to have me miss fish right in front of us. Each time he would always say: “Don’t worry…there will be many more and you will get the next ones”. Eventually I was able to hook, land and release some very nice fish.

In any business, success comes from doing correctly the little things which go unnoticed. Based on his experience Barry is able to spot the subtle indications that reveal the location of fish, provide attention to proper boat positioning, and has the focus needed to teach you how to recognize an opportunity when it presents itself. As a result, Barry allows you to share in, and enjoy, your time on the water. It is difficult to think that there is a better guide in the Florida Keys.

On a personal level, Barry is genuinely personable, has wide ranging interests, and takes an interest in you. He is a serious servant to his community as he has served multiple years as a Board Member of the Florida Keys Fishing Guides Association.

Do yourself a favor: Instead of picking dates to go fishing in the Florida Keys, contact Barry first and determine when he is available… then make your travel and accommodation plans.

Jeff.. my pleasure.. thanks for the amazing review.. but really, when one enjoys what one does (for work) it's easy.. Sometimes it is the angler that makes the day for the guide.. You made it easy for me. I enjoyed the day and your knowledge of the bay and it's influences.. Hope to see you again!

What a great experience! Captain Barry knows his quarry - we had difficult conditions and still we found plenty of fish - snook, redfish, jacks and sea trout. I learned a couple new things and Barry adjusted to my my skill level. Good company in a great piece of wilderness! I hope to return

My wife and I booked a trip with Barry and it was the highlight of our trip to the keys. Barry put us on the fish and spent time teaching us techniques for the snook and tarpon we were targeting. My wife needed some extra coaching and he was patient in getting her up to speed. Barry knows these waters incredibly well and is an excellent guide for any skill level. We will be fishing with him again the next time we visit and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great flats fishing trip!

Capt Barry was a class act! professional from start to finish! My husband and I went down to the keys for an impromptu baby moon and naturally didn’t plan anything until we got down. Originally Barry was all booked but maintained communication with me and was able to accommodate our request for a morning out on the water to bend some rods. The skiff capt barry operates on was comfy smooth and the Everglades we rode through was beautiful. Great morning out on the water and capt barry put us on the fish every time!

Highly recommend, you won’t regret it!
