Cultural history of the area
Nov 2021
Museum shows all about the Greek history of Tarpon Springs. Lots of pictures and artifacts showing the history of the area all the way back to 5000 BC. Most of the stuff has to do with the Greek culture, sponge industry, Greek religious traditions, etc. Very interesting. Nice setting, too - right on the Spring Bayou with a walking area, benches, and a few picnic tables. NOTE that you can get a combination ticket for this place and the Safford House museum and save yourself a few bucks.

This is an awesome little museum that gives you an insight into the Greek culture and sponge fishing in Tarpon Springs. They also had some very nice paintings with local motives. Staff was really nice and helpful

Local history & artifacts
Jun 2020
This small museum at the west side of Craig Park and associated with the Welcome Center features sponge harvesting industry and local history. Because of the pandemic, hours are limited, I believe closing at 3:00—at least on that Friday I was there. Displays by local artists enhance the esoteric history with visual interpretations. A wealth of information about the Greek sponge harvesting industry featured here is unlike anything a Web search can offer.

Art and Artifacts About Sponge Industry and Related History
Feb 2020
This modern center on the bayou is spacious and welcoming. There is an indepth exhibit on the sponge diving industry complete with artifacts like a diving helmet . The gallery features prints of Florida as executed by local artist Christopher Still that were designed for the Florida House of Representatives in Tallahassee. Enchanting. Other paintings focus on the unique landscape that ids Tarpon Springs. Our vist coincided with a bevy of artists painting plen aire about the town. Wonderful. Other exhibits include period photos and histories of women groups there. Gracious staff.

Not as good as I had hoped.

After going on a Sponge Boat Tour, going to the museum was a bit of a let down. Murals and information on the Greek Community and Sponge Industry were inside. Different historical artifacts can be seen. Admission is $5.

Nice, but not much to it

I was hoping for a detailed history of the local sponge industry. There were some artifacts, but not very much. We were in and out in no time.

Watch the movies first and then look at the exhibits - it makes for a better experience. Perfect for a mid afternoon escape from the heat.
