It's closed,...that's all folks!!!

Closed to lack of business.....Channel side sorely needs to be redeveloped...in a struggle between county govt and the banks...Only Hooters, Splitsville, and a couple of other restaurants are survivors...Skip it and go to Florida Aquarium and USS America, the WW2 victory ship.

It was a wonderful IMAX experience. But it is no longer there. It was nice to have at that location for dinner and a movie.

So sad............

I am so sad to see it's closed! It was such a great theater and never over crowded! And you can't beat having a cocktail while watching a movie!

Drinks and a Movie
Dec 2012 • Solo
Awesome fun! The movies are great especially when you can relax and have a drink or two, while watching! This is the ultimate theater of choice; look no further!

My wife and I purchased a Groupon to this theater and we went to see Dark Knight Rises on Sept 3rd. We walked up to the box office window and we weren't even sure if the theater was open, due to plywood on windows and absolutely no light coming through the glass. The sign on the window directed us inside, but even in the lobby it still seemed like we were entering an old abandoned theater, save for the glowing TVs on over the empty bar. The one employee we did find took our voucher and pointed out the location of the parking chip validation machine.

We entered the theater and saw that all of the sections nearer to the screen had bar stools and countertops - the regular seats were limited to the last two rows of the theater. Perhaps we were relegated to a crummy theater because the movie had been out for so long, but it still seemed like a strange configuration. There were no pre-show commercials or ads, and no muzak, just a dark, silent theater with five total people.

When the movie started I was overwhelmed by how loud the volume was the entire time. I know they boast about their Sony 4D sound, etc. but it was excessive in this case. When I left midway to buy some popcorn, I found a long line waiting by the concessions area - because they had run out of popcorn! Come on - there were probably 40 total people in the whole building, and you couldn't maintain an adequate supply of POPCORN?!? So I waited a few minutes (missing the movie at this point) because I was told more would be ready soon, which it was.

So I watched the end of the overly loud movie with my wife and then when we left the theater to exit, again there were no employees to be found - certainly no one to give me my refill on my soda, as promised. So we left and headed home. Fortunately, the chip validation worked and we only had to pay 50 cents to park. But ultimately I was left unimpressed and I decided that if another Groupon comes out for Channelside Cinemas, I will probably pass.

A lot of haters

Just wait for groupons... and get parking validated.

Cry more? Seriously?

It's really not that bad, it could be so much better, i agree. And i forsee some day it becoming better when an investor is willing to work on it, but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be.

Parking Hassle
May 2012
You have to use their parking garage. If you park on the street you get a ticket (they'll find an ordinance to match your parking style!). Oh, and don't lose your parking token or it's $20.00 or you can't leave the garage, strictly enforced. So now you know about my last two visits, with emphasis on LAST.

TERRIBLE!!! This is NOT AN IMAX THEATER
Jul 2012 • Couples
To preface this review; This used to be a legitimate IMAX theater. No signage has been removed or covered and no notices have been made visible to the public when purchasing tickets.

I walked up to the box-office and requested 2 IMAX tickets to an upcoming show. The IMAX sign was clearly displayed on the outdoor signage and the box office attendant made no comment otherwise. About 5 minutes into the film I realized that NO IMAX footage was being shown and this was just a plain 4x digital projector. I went to speak with the manager and once I mentioned the IMAX sign out front, he quickly refunded my ticket price. Until the sign is removed and all box office personal make it clear that this theater is no longer and IMAX theater they are deceptively selling over priced tickets.

AVOID AT ALL COST!
