This was our second trip with Tampa Bays Fishing Charters. Our captain this time was Carl and his mate was Cameron. We caught fish from the time we left the dock until our half day adventure was up. The weather was perfect - no wind and not too warm or too cool. Captain Carl knows where to find fish are and Cameron was very helpful as well. Bring your own snacks (NO bananas) and drinks for the onboard cooler. We were lucky enough to catch some fish that we could keep and Captain Carl cleaned and fileted them when we returned to the dock. The day also included a sighting of manatees, dolphins riding in the wake of the boat and a fever of bat rays. Thanks to Capitan Carl and Cameron for a great day and we will return.

CAPTAIN JOHN has never let us down, always a great day fishing. We’ve been enjoying the bay with John for many years and fully expect to continue that run. The boat is clean, fast and quiet, the bait tank is full and John knows where the fish are staged. We’ve caught huge snook, redfish, mackerel, snapper, Cobia and all types of other local varieties. Can’t wait to get back out there!

One of my lifelong friends lives in the Tampa area, so my 3 sons and myself went to visit he and his family. As I am an avid angler, and my sons love to fish, I asked my friend if he'd set us up with a fishing excursion. We spent the day out with Captain John Paiva. I cannot adequately express to you how highly I'd recommend this gentleman! He was exceedingly professional, patient, personable, knowledgeable, and his time on the water shines through in his ability to locate fish. As a fishermen myself, I understand this is a skill that can only be honed over time spent on the water; not via expensive electronics nor dock talk. Just as importantly, John displayed a love and respect for his quarry and the environment that made me proud for my sons to witness. Our outting was unquestionably the highlight of our trip! My sons, my friend, and myself shared a day that will be remembered for the rest of our lives. We WILL be returning!

My family and I fished with John twice this summer. I thought I had already reviewed him but don't see that I did. Both days, John kept us on the fish. He is great at catching live bait and knows where to fish it. He monitors the tides closely and will vary the trip based on the tides movements. We caught snook, redfish, a lemon fish and numerous spanish mackerel. John says he fishes for grouper in the winter. We were there in the summer so didn't get a chance to catch any.
John is a super nice guy and kept my wife and daughters lines baited after taking off the fish.
His boat is great for bay fishing and John wastes very little just riding around. I would strongly recommend John and Tampa Bay Charters.

We are a family of four from London UK and have never been fishing.
Captain John Paiva was very patient with my boys 11 and 15 showing and explaining everything. We took a half day charter and in that time we caught some fish had a little sightseeing tour of the bay and even managed to see some manatees.
A thoroughly enjoyable day and would recommend John Paiva anytime.

Captain John took care of my family and we had a lot of fun on this trip. Even my 70-year old mother caught a number of fish to brag about. My daughter and I were extremely excited when we saw two dolphins around our fishing area. Even though John had to take us to another spot so that we don't compete with the dolphins for fish, it is still quite an experience to have wild dolphins swimming around the boat while we fish. Captain John is very professional, considerate, kind and delightful. The fishing trip with Captain John is definitely a great activity we had in Tampa.

I just finished a Spanish mackerel dinner that I caught today with Capt. John. You cannot find a more personable or expert Tampa Bay fishing guide. Capt. John met us precisely at the appointed time at the dock and we headed out to the first spot where I managed to catch a ray. Since the first spot wasn't producing after 15 minutes we tried another spot but with minimal action, so on to another place where we "tore it up" for two hours. Three other anglers and I managed to "fill the cooler" with sea trout, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, sea bass, and mangrove snapper. We were so productive that we were in a catch and release mode with some of the releases were larger than the fish in the cooler. Capt. John also provides some great instruction to those of us that were allowing some of the fish to escape before we could land them. Our "half-day" trip was well worth the fee, and our group will definitely schedule another day with Capt. John. Tampa Bays Fishing Charter definitely deserves an EXCELLENT rating.

Captain John Pavia provided me and my out of state guest a great day of fishing. He put us on several types of fish and enjoyed the action. Later we trolled for grouper and finally after fishing Tampa Bay waters I caught my first "Keeper" Grouper, as did my friends. John is an excellent guide and fishing coach. Thanks Captain Pavia for the great time.
