Fun family activity. We took an early morning tour (with two eight year old girls) and enjoyed learning about the history of Tampa Downs. We watched from the bleachers, but I noticed many families with young children picnicking on the grass near the picnic table...More

Played the $25 cheap stack tournament. 89 entries for a total of $2225 in entry fees. Total prize money given out was $801. I realize a business has to make money but to give out only 36% of the total entry fee to the players...More

Even though it was pouring rain, this was a nice activity while in Tampa. One can sit under the sheltered seating area, go inside to watch from the dining area or stand outside under roof. The paddock is just a few steps from the stands,...More

It was a chilly November day but an exciting day at the races kept us so entertained we hardly noticed the weather. The layout was great for getting indoors between the races yet easy to dash outside anytime we wanted. The access to the horses...More

Tampa Bay Downs has nice viewing areas to see the races. You can also have a nice lunch in the upstairs restaurant and view the races from there. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

So our last name is Downs, I thought it would be cool to surprise my husband with lunch and maybe a t-shirt from here. There weren't any races at this track while we were there but the track is beautiful. The food was really good....More

Though its called race track, they probably havent had a race there in over a decade. Mostly streamed from other tracks. You can still bet but know its not live. Also the attraction is the poker room here. They prob keep the race track alive...More

It is a VERY casual setting. I would opt for comfortable casual attire but if you want to dress Derby style, go for it!

Yes, there is a nice restaurant overlooking the track, and you can place bets there. They serve sandwiches, steak, seafood, salads, and other items. Of course, there are fast food stands throughout the track.

We usually don’t arrive until the 2nd or 3rd race. You can bet on each race individually and can leave at any time. It’s a relaxing way to spend an afternoon

How is Tampa Bay Downs? (3 Replies)
I love horse racing and saw something on TV about this race track. We are in the Sarasota area for the winter and wondered about this track and the crowd that would be there? Also any info on Hard Rock Casino.... Really not a huge gambler, but do love to watch the horses. Thanks for any input...

I think you want a place on the Gulf which means Clearwater Beach or any of the other beach communities of Pinellas County. Tampa is on the Bay and while there are some hotels on Rocky Point and Downtown that overlook water, I don't think that is what you have in mind. Most reasonable way to go to Tampa Bay Downs is by car, you really need to rent a car to get around here. The Downs are near Oldsmar and Safety Harbor, it is very out of the way from the standard tourist areas. The Casino...More

My family and are planning on being in the Ft. Lauderdale area for Feb 18-21. We are avid racing fans and are planning to head to Gulfstream Park for the Foutain of Youth that Saturday. but no one in my group has been there in about 10 years. The website does not give you much information on tickets, seating, etc. I see there are $30 dollar grandstand seats as well as indoor seating for $10-$20. Is there a general admission area with seating and a view of the track, (i.e. the picnic tables...More
