About Everglades Airboat Excursions
I am retired and now live deep in the Everglades of Florida in a cabin nestled within a “tree island”. My airboat rides include a 30-35 mile ride with many Everglades sightings.

We met Capt Gerald Motes as the company we originally scheduled with was unable to take us, due to their mechanical issues - but recommended Capt Gerald. I'm a full time wheelchair user and it was NOT a problem with Everglades Airboat Excursions" - He has one of the only Airboats equipped to handle wheelchairs, so that the Wheelchair user can STAY in his chair. Capt Gerald's business card says 'Tour Guild & Naturalist' he stopped the tour several times to point out different wildlife and plants. We only saw 1 small alligator - (we booked the 12:30 pm Tour, and the Alligators are more active earlier and later during the day, so I recommend a different time for the tour than mid-day) Capt Gerald also took us to his home. He is one, if not the only full time resident living in this area of the Everglades - his house is also "Old Glory Camp" where he can sleep 19+ people, he regularly hosts Scouts, Veterans and other groups. We cannot Compliment and Recommend Capt Gerald enough ! he is the BEST at what he does ! ! ! !

Our bucket list has always been to do an airboat in the Everglades! We have done a great one in Belize and also one in New Orleans . This trip we were with our friends and the gentleman is in a wheelchair and also paralyzed. Trying to find adventures and tours to include him in can be a task but we were determined to find an airboat to take him on. After contacting many companies another company booked us on an airboat that had a ramp. Awesome! Private tour for the four of us! We get to the meeting place which was very easy to find and Captain Gerald is there to greet us! He had a ramp for our wheelchair to roll up on which folds into the floor and secured him at the railing which we observed other air boats not having. Off we went into the Everglades! Now Captain is unique as he lives within the Everglades and knows everything there is to know @. He stopped several times to show us a nest built into the marsh with eggs in it, different bird species we came across, and different fish as well as eco awareness. He showed us a cabin out on one of the islands before working our way towards his camp where he hosts groups, families, other airboat enthusiasts as well as folks just wanting to get away from it all. I think he said he can host as many as 19! While there for a brief moment to stretch another guide came with folks to enjoy a picnic lunch at his camp. Then we were on our way back to our dock and before we knew it our adventure was over. Captain was so great answering our many questions about the wildlife as well as how he became to live there! When we do this again, we will book with him! Thank you for the best afternoon!

Captain Gerald us out for an hour tour. He and his family have many decades of experience and knowledge about the Everglades. The tour was equal parts fun and a fascinating learning experience. Gerald took us out to his camp on a man made island where we were able to see alligators close up and the amazing 360 degree view from the roof top. I'll be bringing my grand son back!

If you have booked somewhere else, cancel and book here now!!! You can tour the Everglades with someone that’s been doing this a couple years or go with perhaps the last Gladesman— the only known person in this area to live full time in the Everglades!! Others will actually pull up in front of Capt Gerald’s house and talk about him as the legend he is OR you can go with Capt Gerald and go inside his house to tour it!!!! No brainer! He’s been doing airboats for 50 years and has a wonderful sense of humor. The Everglades were amazing but truthfully only 10% of the experience for me! Capt Gerald and touring his home and seeing his pet gators was the other 90%! He also takes out tours fishing and frogging and will cook it all up at his house. We will absolutely be back with our kids and extended family to experience that! This is one of the most authentic experiences I’ve had in a long time!

Our family of 7 took the 2 hour tour. Captain Gerald is a great host. The tour was the right mix of fun rides at high speed along the channels, and informative stops. Unfortunately, the water was high at that time, so wildlife was more difficult to see. But a highlight was the stop at Old Glory camp, Gerald’s tree island cabin. A true Everglades experience.
