The Governor's Mansion is a perfect example of old style FLorida architecture at its best. It exudes elegance and evokes memories of a past replete with glory, nostalgia and embarrassment . Although tastefully treated, one is reminded of the suppression and oppression that is a vivid part of the history of this southern Confederate state. Most topics are treated fairly in words but less so in pictures. References are made to slavery and the Reconstruction Era but much is 'glossed over' .

We came by and the mansion is lovely from the outside, however you must call and make an appointment to have a tour inside. The outside garden is also locked. So can can look, but that's it.

You need to call to make a reservation to visit the mansion. However, the wonderful mansion director, makes every effort to accommodate people. We called late in the day after visiting the Grove House, which is next door. She gave us great tour even though they were getting ready to host a dinner for the First Lady. The mansion is tastefully decorated and the grounds are fabulous.

What a fun surprise to have my FDLE friend get us a last minute tour! The left side is actually where Gov. Rick Scott lives and the right side is where his family entertains. So cool to see all the pics and learn about the rich Florida history.
