Hidden Gem

Stumbled on this place. Look for the Steinhatchee Falls sign or you might miss the road. Dirt road so if you are in a car, drive slow. Great place to launch your canoes. Nice hike on the loop.

Beautiful scenic view
Aug 2020
This is advertised as the largest waterfall in Florida. I found it quite funny as it’s not very big. I guess Florida is flat I’ll give it there. It is a difficult place to find because the only sign for it is at the entrance and it’s facing out to the road so you cannot see it from either direction until you pass it.The path to it is filled with potholes but you can circumvent it by driving across the other side usually. There is parking right at the Falls and it is very picturesque. I definitely think you should visit, however it’s not a place to start. Just take a few pictures and move on.

Cute little waterfall
Aug 2020 • Couples
Nice little spot, and a very small waterfall, considering you are in the flats of Florida. Was easy to find, although there is no sign facing either direction on the main road indicating where you can turn. We had to drive past it and noticed the sign and turned around. There was a family with kids doing a little tubing run through the falls and it looked very cute and safe for families. They were getting in just above the falls and getting out just below the falls and going around and starting over.
Would be a fun family day. Covered Picnic tables and port potty on site. Shady do not too hot.

Lovely spot to stop and picnic.
Jul 2020 • Couples
Nice little spot to visit on the way to Tallahassee if you have time. The unpaved road is short and should be used at a low speed. Bring a picnic lunch if you want to enjoy the falls and picnic tables. This area is open sunrise to sunset - daylight hours only.

We needed a bathroom, and the wheelchair accessible portapotty was all that was there, so we used it. It was clean, had toilet paper, and a wasp & nest. The hand sanitizer inside was empty, but we had some in the car. It is checked once a week, and last check was 2 days ago. So why was hand sanitizer empty?

This is part of District Lands, and a sign is posted with what is and is not permitted. There is also a sign about large groups, which are prohibited during the pandemic. And why is the water brown?

Such a pretty and unexpected place. The falls was very nice, not real big but unexpected in this rural location.

Paddle club trip

We paddled from Steinhatchee Falls to the town of Steinhatchee. Excellent trip with great weather and water level just under 11' at the Cross City measure device was perfect.

Fun by the river
Jul 2019 • Family
Fun simple day by the river. Picnic tables and pavilions. Simple Florida fun. BBQ grills but limited parking so never really overcrowded.

Beautiful park
Jul 2018 • Couples
This state maintained park is lovely as it still has the feel of old florida. Time slows here, so feel free to bring kids, cook out, kayak or swim. Old oaks amd cypress trees provide shade. Feels like another world. Please go.
