For almost a year now we have been regularly enjoying the hill-top road between the villages of Lozenitsa and Vinogradi (just a few kilometres from the spectacular town of Melnik) and the village of Harsovo because of its breathtaking views and its vivid autumn leaf colours. It is a road that runs through a series of well-kept vineyards and the main landmark, just before you reach Harsovo, is the magnificent boutique winery Villa Melnik. Set on the Southern crest of the hill, overlooking long rows of vines stretching in the direction of the Greek border. Passing by we have noticed that the winery is a vibrant centre of life – agricultural workers busy with their daily chores, tourists and customers, festivals and celebrations. Yesterday, with a little more time on our hands, we too stopped by to explore this curious place. We were quite impressed. The winemakers – Nikola and Lyubka – welcomed us as if we were old friends, they were very friendly and patient to our children, and gave us a full tour of the facility, which is technologically very impressive. The vineyards have many traditionally regional varieties, such as Shiroka Melnishka (wide-leaved Melnik vine) – a particular favourite of Winston Churchill – and Keratsuda, as well as foreign varieties, such as Syrah, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The whole system of processing the grapes and making the wine is designed with precision, intelligence and clear confidence in science and innovation. The cellars are dug deep into the sandy rock underneath the winery where wine ages in Bulgarian, French and American oak barrels. Finally, we were treated to an extensive wine tasting experience. We tasted five whites, a rosé, five reds, a sweet dessert wine, and there were still plenty left for next time. The variety of tastes and styles was impressive, but the quality of the wines was equally high. All in all, this place by far exceeded our expectations and we will be coming back for more. Therefore, we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone travelling in the vicinity of Melnik or Sandanski – stop by, you will not regret it.

Exceptional winery, the 39th best in the world for 2020. It's a great place to visit if you're nearby Melnik. Here you can see the technology behind making great wine. There's a hospitable guide who'll walk you around the winery and share its history and technology. You can do wine tasting. The red wine is plain fantastic. I highly recommend trying out the Applauz selection (their high-end class) and especially Shiroka or the 1300.

For a wine lover or even a nature lover , a trip to Vila Melnik is well, magical !
One of the most breathtaking settings you will encounter anywhere in the world.
Leave time to just hang around and stare !!!!
The vineyards are lush .Well taken care of ,vines with many local and international varietals .
The climate allows for healthy vines , producing high quality grapes .
The staff is very professional and discriminative in their work , hence the world class wines of international and local grape varietals.
I just had the perfect day at Vila Melnik !!!!
In the mourning I picked grapes with the crew , a totally civilized affair !
Then the owner Mrs.Zikatanova and the winemaker Mr. Mikov spend time with me , helping me create the begining of a perfect wine collection !
I already had my heart set on some bottles , but without their help and care I would have not have several dozens now resting happily in the library of the cellar.
Both of them are so excidingly nice , absolut pleasure to work with.
It just both genuinely cared about my collection.
To top this I was invited to a 5 star lunch !!!
Really , here people eat local and organic !
And now for the more emotional part !
Yes , this are wines to move you !
Of course they are solid, balanced , nuanced.
They tell the sweeping story of on old culture and unforgettable nature.
But somehow tasting you don't think of it.
It's just, well the sense and the emotion takes over .
These are warm , sexy , even sensual wines.
You are instantly dreaming, you become nostalgic , you fall in love .
It happen to me.
Let it happen to you.

This is probably the best winery in south Bulgaria for visits and tasting. Unlike most others you can just drop in during work hours and there will always be someone to show you around and conduct the tasting. The prices are great for the experience and quality of wine that you taste. The tour is interesting and informative. Buy the higher tasting package as it includes the best wines from Villa Melnik + a wonderful cheese and meats platter. Everyone in the winery is very friendly and this just makes the experience truly great. Last but not least - the view of and from the winery is nothing short of a Tuscan postcard!

We were visiting the winery in June, 2021 with a gleam of wine professionals and enthusiasts as a part of our wine tour.
We were absolutely impressed - the winery, technology , the concept, fantastic cave cellars.
Wines were mostly a blast! You can feel how great international grape varieties, like for example, syrah get a character and uniqueness on Bulgarian soils, you may also explore local autochnotic broad leaf Melnik, you can even try Amber wine here. And the hospitality of the owner, Nikolay was above all expectations leaving a remarkable taste after our visit. Must visit places for both tourists and wine lovers.
We will be back)

Came here with my partner for the winery tour and tasting.
We were very happy with the super informative tour done in perfect English by tony.
They are producing around 200,000 bottles are year and have some great varieties. The cellars where super cool, you can even keep the wine you buy here to age in there bottle locker free of charge.

For the wine tasting we had a variety of wines including white, rosé and reds and I have to say they were all very good but the one that I was super impressed with was the hailstorm special it was amazingly complex & has a great back story.

I have to say that this was the best winery that we visited in the region and we will definitely be returning in the summer.

The tour itself around the winery is amazing experience - authentic & at the same time stylish and modern atmosphere. You can feel everything like history, culture, art, nature, traditions & spirit for creation - all these as background and inspiration for great unique wines. The welcome & attitude on side of owners/ staff is great and warm. Beautiful & recommendable destination & stop in Bulgaria :-)

Highly recommend the wine tasting and the walk through the winery!
It was a great experience to follow the wine production process and after to taste the different wines. The cave with the oaks was fantastic.

Loved most the shiraz, but also their orange wine. It was good that after tasting you may buy the wines you just tried, and more.

The trade mark is Applauz and they really deserve applause!

Thank you. In fact the only moments of higher satisfaction than from making good wines, are those when we see that people like them and feel happy. Dear guests and friends - we are working for you! Welcome!

Arrived at the winery to be greeted by Eva who was gave us a warm welcome and took us on a tour (in English as our Bulgarian is limited) of the winery before pouring several samples of the different delicious wines for us to taste - some were award winners. This winery is situated on the top of a hill with stunning views overlooking vineyards and off to mountains which surround the area. Definitely recommend a visit.
