About
This park provide unique opportunities for visitors to enjoy natural Florida beaches. They are contiguous sections of a 100-acre property that interacts with four bodies of water; the Gulf of Mexico, Big Pass, Sarasota Bay and Brushy Bayou. Because of their convergence, currents run swift in some areas of the shoreline.

Such a disgrace of a formerly beautiful, small-feel, protected park. Pulled in today after a couple of years and it felt like Corporate America in all its glory. Rental businesses took up half the parking (which is minimal at best to begin with) which tells me locals aren't really welcome anymore, especially those coming in with their own gear. Clearly this Sarasota park only wants wealthy tourists and vacationers which is what so much of "Authentic Florida" now feels like. Such a shame.

This park has something for everyone. Beach, picnic areas, ample parking, walking/hiking paths, kayak rentals and areas to put your own kayak in, guided tours of mango areas. And yet it seems very peaceful and reserved while we were there. I’m sure in the busy months the park will be packed but for us it was just wonderful!

Been coming to Florida for over 30 years and this is the first time we tried this, Great for all ages and novice Kayakers. You will see a variety of wild life including Manatees. Guides are patient and informative. My wife and I are in our mid 80's and had no problems at all. DO IT !!

Want serene water front views. Go here by car, bike or foot. Really nice place to relax. This is one of Sarasota's hidden gems. You need to seek it out, but it is worth the effort.

Ted Sperling Park is located near the southern tip of Lido Key, and it is famous for kayaking and canoeing, also guided tours - for enthusiasts exploring mangroves, learning about nature and its wildlife.
Being now a section of the South Lido Park, and given its activities the park displays various warning info boards, justifiably so, for tourists to use caution.
The park is named after the city commissioner Ted Sperling who's done a lot for the exploration and preservation of nature in this beautiful area.
The park was very quiet - we hardly saw anybody there.

We come here at least 3 times a week or more while visiting from the north. Some days the shady trees and beach on the east side beckon us; other days the beach at the point or the west side speak to us and we bring our umbrella. We bring breakfast or lunch and spend the day here. Parking is plentiful, the sand and the water are clean and folks are friendly. Picnic tables and grills are located under the trees on the east side. Those fishing from shore are more often than not successful but egrets and blue heron are ever watchful for their next meal. Boats pull up on shore at the north-east end of the beach. The restrooms are clean; there is a foot washing station and good handicapped parking. There is no admission or parking fee to use this park and there is public bus service to the park. Kayak rentals are available as well.

Wednesday morning in late August I had the place nearly to myself! I walked the trails and followed the waters edge making the first human footprints of the day. No breeze but also no mosquitos - have no idea why but happy. The pavilion was under reconstruction so facilities not available for a while-surprised.
Heard kayakers yakking through the vegetation but did not see them.
Pretty nice way to start the day.

We did a three hour self guided kayaking among the mangrove channels. Saw a dolphin, many birds, clams and crabs.
Very nice day, relaxing and quiet in nature

Launched our own kayaks with easy in and out, easy parking on weekday. Going through the mangrove tunnel was fun. Nice white sand at beach area south of the launch.

This is a great place to launch a kayak; lots of room, and nice launching area, one for commercial, one for everyone else. You can also rent one there if you like, and even go on a guided tour of the mangrove trees.

Can you navigate the mangrove tunnels in a 2 person tandem kayak?
Written July 14, 2017
Going to answer my own question: Yes. Went there this weekend and had no trouble navigating the tunnels in a 2 person kayak. There are narrow spots but nothing that can't be easily handled.
