Nathan Benderson Park

About
Nathan Benderson Park is a Sarasota County community park managed by the nonprofit Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates. The 600-acre park has 400 acres of water surface for rowing and paddle sports, both for competition and recreation, and for recreational fishing (from land and on water — however, gas motors are prohibited by law). There's a 3.4-mile paved trail around the competition lake with a parallel shell-covered trail, and multiple 5K run/walk routes mapped around the park. The park is host to world, national, state and regional rowing and dragon boat regattas and triathlons, but also is home to many community festivals and events, and is open daily for recreational use — whether walking, jogging, running, cycling, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rowing or relaxing. The park's playground is a popular attraction, and the top of the Benderson Family Finish Tower — a state-of-the-art facility designed with competition in mind — is popular for sightseers.

Our high school aged daughter recently competed in the Sarasota Invitational Regatta at Nathan Benderson Park. We were wowed by this facility! There are many excellent vantages from which to view the races including the areas agent to the tower. The course itself is beautiful and though the waters are said to be home to the occasional alligator our teams’ rowers escaped unscathed. We look forward to returning. This is truly a world class rowing facility!

Great outdoors! Is a rower’s paradise....host to National rowing championships!
Christmas on the pond is beautiful! Hundreds of lighted palm trees, rowers that actually move and much more..a must see! Next to the University Town Center mall....right off of 75! Great place for a lovely stroll too!

This is listed as a world class rowing facility but there is little to no parking no real bathroom facilities and really disorganized. Definitely NOT world class!!!!The website does not list times for events just dates. When we tried to park we were sent to a full lot, then sent to park in an area that said "no event parking".
So frustrated we left sooner than we liked to. They really need to get their act together before holding national and international games. Right now it's under construction where they are wasting $42 million is beyond me. Typical government waste and mismanagement!!

Thank you so much to Benderson development, and all the business sponsors and politicians who support it, for this beautiful new park! Now that University Parkway is about to get even more congested, it will be wonderful to have a place to exercise. I wish the bike lane didn't cut off in the roundabouts, but it's otherwise perfect.

The park offers a great place for all types of paddling and rowing, excellent bike and walking trails, plus plenty of parking. The Sunshine State Games were held there, with great success. The washrooms are still in the process of being built and there is still a lot of construction going on, but this is a great park, especially for water sports.

I have been walking everyday at this park and really enjoy it. The paths are clean and open, view is beautiful and plenty of picnic tables available. Only bummer is the restroom facilities are disgusting. Will make sure from now on won't need the restrooms. The mobile gas station up the road is cleaner.

I love relaxing and walking here or you can sit on one of the benches and read in peace. Hope they keep it clean and neat, so far so good!

Attended a national rowing event here. The park was awesome - easy to view the competition with great technology to view the entire race from the finish line, or bicycle along the route. Parking was easy, plenty of restroom facilities too.

This is a good place to run or bike 3-4 miles around the lake if it is winter. Otherwise, it is a good place to run in the dark. There is very little shade anywhere on the paths at this park. The park is clean, pretty, and there are bathrooms and a little playground for kids. It is fun to watch the rowers on the lake, if you have a nice big sun hat!

In 2019, we added 100 new trees on the east shore of the park, and the west shore has its share of trees. As you probably can imagine, the park is still developing. We are happy to have you here anytime — see you at the park!
