Have to see this on a Sunday evening. Good luck finding a parking spot in the huge lot. We stayed at the Best Western in Sarasota and Jonny's Free Ride service will drop you off in front of beach. (Should tip at least $4/person riding. What a blast listening to the beat of the drums and bongos. A steady beat that I enjoyed. Must have been over 600 people gathering around. I worked my way into the middle ring to dance to the beat. The crowd becomes friendly and excited. Starts about 1 hour before sunset and I guess it goes for a few hours. This beach has been ranked #1 in the entire U.S. two times in the last 28 years. Hard to beat Hawaii every year.

It’s not your typical Sunday night activity in retiree country. But it’s a fun activity for kids and other free spirits. My nephews enjoyed it. It was a good reason to take a nice sunset walk on the beach if nothing else!

I LOVE the drum circle on Siesta Key Bunch. It is huge and alot of fun. Drumming the sun down every Sunday. If you have never experienced a drum circle, make sure and check it out. Fun for all ages.

This event is in fact, free, and I agree with the OP that you should arrive early to find parking, although it's not too far from the restaurants in Siesta Key Village. It was heavily promoted by everyone we met who knew we were tourists on Siesta Key. It begins at dusk, but we arrived about 20 minutes after it began. It looked like a fun time, was crowded, and there were adults from all walks of life and children of all ages. As tourists, my friend took a couple of photos of the performers. Being that the sun was starting to go down, the flash came on. One of the performers stopped the whole thing and began shouting at my friend and one other person near her who were taking pictures. He dropped every expletive in the book, children within 2 feet of him, and when he was quite finished, said, "Thank you all very much." Absolutely not ok. We went for a walk on the beach and the smell of marijuana wafted through the air. Never again, and will warn tourists not to attend this event.

A bunch of potheads who beat on a drum, chant and hum standing in a circle on an otherwise beautiful beach. Then they all disappear and go back to their parent's basement where they live.

I've been going to Sarasota for several years and kept hearing about this drum circle, and this time was finally able to go! I thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience on Siesta Key, one of the prettiest beaches on the East coast. You can't help but move your feet to the rhythm of the beating drums, and it was so fun watching people dance. Some of the obvious regulars were in costumes, including lighted butterfly wings, and others had glowing hula hoops, which were beautiful as it became dusk. In the last moments of the gorgeous sunset, the crowd cheered the beauty of nature. Take a beach chair and cooler, kick back, and enjoy this truly unique beach experience!

Drum Circle is a wonderful "VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY" event where participation from children is encouraged and we have been on many occasions without any issues with drugs. Like any event, you can find undesirable fringe activities, but the spirit and activities of drum circle are chill in a positive way. As a family with 6 year old and 20 year old daughters, we have always had an enjoyable experience.

6 of us girls went to the drum circle expecting a neat experience, instead we found it to be more of a drug induced playtime for some folks. The people next to us said to each other, Let's take that Molly now. There were families with kids dancing to the drums, it just isn't something I would take my kids to or visit again. Your time would be better spent walking the beach and viewing the beautiful sunset while trying some if the many icecream places that are available.

Beautiful quiet sunsets have been replaced, at Siesta Key, by crowds, traffic and people frantic for a collective contact high. Go to Lido or somewhere quiet and watch. Or go here fight for a spot and then fight to get out of the parking lot amidst the great unwashed.
don't let marketing get in the way of good karma. avoid.

This reminded me of African drums I heard in Zimbabwe!! Nice way to enjoy the sunset but when we were here it was raining & they ,moved it into the Pavillion area. There were 8-10 people playing drums & men & women dancing, women were also giving out flowers & burning incenses, there were all ages there enjoying the beat of the drums! Only problem was one person drinking too much becale unruly but the crowd got him to calm down a little & to leave. I was a little afraid at first there might be a brawl but it ,deescalated. Everyone should experience this at least once!
