The Asolo Rep has two theaters in their building--the larger Mertz Theater and the smaller Cook Theater. I saw The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity in the Cook. It was an amazing show and so different from any play I have ever attended. They actually converted the Cook into a wrestling arena, complete with a real wrestling ring and cheering... More

The one thing which I certainly learned from visiting this theatre and enjoying a performance of "The Little Foxes" is that one should never wait until the last minute to purchase tickets because the balcony's first row is just not the place to sit in this theatre. In fact, with people coming and going prior to the show and during... More

My wife and I have seen all (4) performances do far this seaon/--from the opener, "Guys & Dolls" to "Born Yesterday" a few nights ago. Each---absolutely fantastic !! "Standing O's" for every one !!! Simply a great night out !!!

This excellent repertory Theatre is a must for anyone visiting Sarasota. The plays are staged in a historic Theatre which was moved to the sight, and offers great sight lines from all seats. The plays are always current and the acting is first rate. We saw The Great Society (Lyndon Johnson's presidential years) and The Originalist ( about the late... More

Saw two plays here while in Sarasota. First watched the 3-hour play The Great Society. It has two intermissions. It was a well written and well performed play which I enjoyed. Then I saw The Drunken City in the Cook Theatre (which is inside the Asolo Rep). This was performed by FSU grad students. It was a fun play and... More

This was in a smaller Cook Theater inside the Asolo Building. An 80 minute show without intermission. A well performed play that kept you attention from start to finish. I recommend it as a great night of entertainment.

This cultural icon is not only beautiful but presents high quality theatre. The building and the theatre itself are gorgeous. The local and imported talent are world class. Tickets are not inexpensive so you get what you pay for. Parking is usually plentiful but arrive early to ensure you have time to fight the season traffic, find parking etc.

Stunning venue, this is a beautiful theater very sophisticated and comfortable. We saw Born Yesterday, an older play that continues to have relevance today. The cast was extraordinary and highly professional, the set (only one for this production) was lovely. If visiting Sarasota this is a must!

We checked out this theatre when we were visiting Ringling. What a gorgeous old place. Very classy surroundings. Not a bad seat in the place. We've seen 2 shows so far and have 3 more to go. We picked the wed/Thursday matinees at 1:30 then there's time for an early dinner afterward. Very comfortable seating. Price is about $25 per... More

This has to be one of the best regional theater companies in the country. The theater itself is elegant with vintage accoutrements imported from Europe. The resident company is mostly equity and all very talented. The management does an excellent job of selecting a repertoire for each season from opening with a popular musical to current plays and classics. We... More
