About
Come see how generations have lived off the sea. How crabbers fish, see oyster bars and learn how the water has its own rules and highways. Take a trip to Ft Myers Beach and get a up close look at working shrimp boats, or just bounce around from island to island for some cool island drinks and great local food. Give us a call for some great fishing, shelling, sunset cruises and much more.

Captain Joe was an excellent host for our Sanibel fishing trip. We have been out with several charters in different areas and we would recommend Barefoot Charters and Captain Joe. He came highly recommended from The Bait Box on Sanibel - good call!

We had an absolutely wonderful time with Captain Joe. He is super down to earth and quick to help you out. We learned a lot about salt water fishing and greatly enjoyed his company. We also got to see some dolphins which was an added bonus. I highly recommend fishing with Captain Joe. You won't regret it! Thanks again! We will remember this day forever!

Our meeting with Joe was unplanned and totally spontaneous.
We drove through Sanibel Island Florida and promptly got lost, when we spotted Joe sitting in Sanibel Castaways Marina and cottages and asked for his help.
While talking to him we discovered a whole new world.
Through his unique insight we were exposed to the Island, the ocean, and the surrounding habitat like we could not even dream of.
We saw Pelicans and Blue Heroin, crabs crowds and lots of other interesting creatures.
Joe's knowledge is endless and as a proud American he taught us some very interesting facts about the wild life.
We had learned so much by spending an hour with this great man, imagine how exciting it is spending a day on a Cruz with him.
In fact, Joe can make even our totally urban kids take a look at the wild life around other - dare we say.... explore their surroundings ?! rather than keep their eternal drowning in their nooks and Ipad.
Joe reminded us what a great country America is!
Would not miss spending time with such a great man!
Find him, engage him and grow rich in spirit like we did

We booked a half day excursion and couldn't have been more pleased. Trevor, our captain, was friendly, informative & professional, plus easygoing. He took us to an oyster bar where we waded around and saw all kinds of things we never saw before - huge whelk shells, live oysters and all kinds of marine life. Then the guys were able to give bow fishing a try, and had a blast. After that we "played" with several Dolphins as they lept through our wake for quite a while, only 4 feet away from us. It was great to have just our group of 5 aboard, and the pontoon boat was comfortable and allowed us to bring whatever beverages and snacks we wanted. Very personal and well done. I'd recommend this to any small group interested in a fun day on the water. Would do it again in a minute!

We had so much fun on our half-day trip with Captain Joe. So much fun that we composed the lyrics to a country song! We saw manatees, Dolphins, Rays, went shelling, snorkeled, and learned much about the area. I highly recommend taking the time for a charter. They will happily take into consideration your personal interests and your level of adventure.

Thanks to Captain Trevor for a great afternoon. We booked the trip for our family of five, kids ages 8, 11 and 13. Trevor let us plan the afternoon. We opted for shelling and swimming on North Captiva and then fishing for a bit. It was our first time fishing and while we only caught one (and had to throw it back) we still had a fun, relaxing, and educational afternoon. On the way in, we saw a bunch of dolphins and Captain Trevor knew just how to get them to play with the wake of the boat. So much fun.

Overall, it was a great way to see a different aspect of the island.

We booked a 1/2 day fishing trip. Our captain was Trevor, who was very professional, yet a lot of fun. We went off shore and ended up catching Mangrove Snappers, many grunts and a variety of other things. If the weather would have cooperated in our upcoming days, we would have booked more trips and we will definitely use Barefoot again in the future. Upon return while Trevor was cleaning our fish for us, we chatted with Joe who also gave us some of his special seasoning for us to use on our fish, which by the way turned out delicious! Great day out fishing!

We recently enjoyed a visit to Castaway Resort on Sanibel Island as well as a fishing trip with Captain Joe of Barefoot Charters at the same location. We had a wonderful day fishing. We had two kids aboard, ages 11 and 13, who learned so much from Captain Joe, including how to tie a stable knot on their fishing lines to all the different wildlife he showed them and talked about. Even though some of us are natives to the area, we still learned quite a bit from Captain Joe. We feel out fishing trip was a big success and we saw several manatee, sharks, dolphins, etc. I caught a large Red Fish and before leaving, Captain Joe gave us some of his special seasonings that we put on the fish and ate the best fish we have ever had. We highly recommend Barefoot Charters to anyone looking for a private adventure fishing or shelling off the waters of Sanibel. Thank you so much; the kids are still talking about you and talking about their friend, Captain Joe. We had a great adventure and great photos but most of all great memories. The first day we went out searching for shells with Captain Joe. We had a blast on the boat and got a great sense of Sanibel and Captiva from the water. Joe was an excellent guide (and story teller) and we came home with a TON of shells!

The next day we went fishing with Captain Trevor (half day/inshore). Only a few fish wanted to come out and play that day since it was prime season for offshore fishing, but we learned a lot about fish in the region, and different bait and casting techniques. We had a blast just being out on the water and soaking in the sunshine! The hunt is half the fun, and we certainly enjoyed our time on the boat!

Joe and Trevor are both experienced Captains who have vast knowledge of the islands and all they have to offer. If you're looking for a boat tour, fishing or a shelling expedition, I highly recommend going out with these guys. They're both a lot of fun, and you'll learn a lot in the process. We will definitely use them again the next time we're in the area!

Side note - We were looking to join up with a group to reduce the cost of the trip. Joe was great to work with in terms of finding a trip that was within our budget that allowed us to still get out on the water. These are good, salt of the earth people. I hope we get to chance to go out with them again in the future!

While visiting Sanibel in December of 2014 we chartered a boat trip with Captain Joe. We had a wonderful time exploring nature, shelling, and learning the lay of the land (really water) with Barefoot Charters. We really enjoyed our trip and would hire Captain Joe again without hesitation.
