Have been to the Bait Box several times over the past few years. They have always been more than willing to help when needed advice, suggestions, etc. and always have several options for frozen/live bait. Stopped by one of the other fishing stores on the island once before and will not make that mistake again - the Bait Box is the place to go! Looking forward to stopping by when we make our yearly visit next week.

I come to Sanibel every year and spend a lot of time fishing. When I lost the top half of my fishing pole I went to every Bait/tackle shop on the island and nobody even tried to help me until I went to the Bait Box. The owner took the time to find a matching pole and gave me the top at no charge! All the employees have always been very friendly and helpful. I don't usually write reviews, but I would recommend the Bait Box again and again to anyone planning on fishing on Sanibel and Captiva. I would go the extra mile even if I were on the other end of the island.

I don't like going to places where I feel out of place. The sport fishing world seems to be one of those "clique" type activities that has a lot of zealots who find it amusing to see a greenhorn trying to select bait.

The staff at Bait Box didn't give me this feeling at all. Their staff took the time to explain everything to me as far as I needed it. The atmosphere was welcoming and had a really good selection to chose from.

We went on a charter and had a great guide.

As a side note - the other bait shop on the island is owned by a former employee of this bait shop, and he isn't afraid to gossip. Steer clear of Whitney's if you're actually concerned with who you give your dollar to!

Great place. Horrible management. I have to put a name out there specifically, Ron I believe his name was, it happened on two separate occasions when I was in there I overheard him talking down to his staff, calling them stupid and cursing at them in my opinion I don’t believe that’s very professional. I would love to go back but I don’t want to support a place that hires managers like him, that let their “higher” position get to their head.

I felt like I was disturbing them by buying some bait. Most of the people on the island are like this -- miserable.

We visited Sanibel in August, 2013. During the last part of the week I decided to give beach fishing a try. The guys at the Bait Box set me up with everything I needed to be successful. They rented me all the equipment, told me what bait to use, and how to fish it along with the best time to fish. Needless to say I caught a very nice Snook or my first outing. Thanks for helping me! These guys are highly recommended.

The Bait Box has been the go to bait shop on the island for 40 plus years. Ralph and his staff have the pulse of what is biting and what to use. Last weekend they had their annual Esperanza Woodring Memorial Castnet Rodeo to honor Ralph's mom Esperanza Woodring who was a legendary guide and cats netter. It is a kids only even and even if your children have never thrown a castnet there are more than enough patient staff to help.

Stop by and get some bait and enjoy fishing in J.N. Ding Darling State Park. Plenty to catch there.

Great local shop. If your on Sanibel check these guys out.

Good range of live and frozen bait at reasonable prices.

They have gear to rent or gear and tackle to buy.

They also offer friendly advice as where to fish and what to use. They didn't make you feel like an idiot or like you were wasting their time like a lot of places do if your not local or someone who fishes everyday.

Popped in while down on business for an impromptu fishing day. They got me set up with a rental, bait and advice which all made for an awesome day ending in a delicious dinner of my catch. I've rented equipment in various places (I really should learn to pack my travel rod) and always found them to be very cheap but this one was great! Held up well despite the monster I ended up fighting. Thanks guys! Can't wait to get back down there again! See you soon!

We have now been to this establishment for two years and the owners and staff are very helpful. Recommended a couple of spots for shore fishing that we outstanding. Caught grouper, snapper, sheepshead, black drum, bream, sand perch and pompano. Took the catch to the Lazy Flamingo where they cooked our catch and that was awesome as well.
