Pretty Drive

Very Pretty View but $6.00 is high to cross the bridge, and if there is a wreck FORGET it! I prefer going by boat.

Beautiful place. We visited the beach next to the light house. Very clean and quite. Water is warm and clean. Kids loved it.

The Sanibel Causeway is the main road that leads to the bridge to Sanibel and Captiva Islands. It is the only way in and out. The bridge is gorgeous with the feeling of what is ahead when you arrive to the islands...the way out is equally fabulous, except you will want to be coming instead of going!

This bridge is very well maintained and the toll ($6) seemed reasonable to get to Sanibel. The bridges are plenty wide which made me feel better because I have a fear of driving over bridges, especially ones over water.

We were anticipating the trip across the causeway looking for Sanibel Island light. There she was! Off to the left, with many stops along the way which were loaded with photo ops. There are picnic areas, just pull-offs, fishing spots that seemed quite popular. The reward of the trip was making that left turn on Periwinkle to see the light... More

Hurricane Charley flattened a great many trees on Sanibel back in 2004, where the island got smacked broadside. The causeway still offers a nice place to have a shady lunch on your way back home.

Shells, Shells, Shells, I love them and they certainly are plentiful at this spot! The water was calm and it was just breath taking, if you are in the area it's worth the stop!

This is a pretty drive with places to stop. It is $6.00 to drive over to Sanibel Island. Places to picnic along the water.

There is always a thrill when you see the causeway knowing what lies ahead. There are areas you can stop and picnic, fish or just watch "what is in the water". We always are thrilled to see dolphins.

It's worth the trip to just pull around on the old bridge turnaround. It's nice to let the little ones watch see under the causeway. Since the draw bridge is gone this is the only opportunity to see. Also the roadside parks are nice as you head off he island to get a picture of the lighthouse or Ft Myers... More
