About Sanibel Sea School Day Program
Sanibel Sea School is dedicated to vibrantly teaching children and adults about marine ecosystems. We use the barrier island habitats of Sanibel and Captiva to give our students an opportunity to touch, feel, and understand their surroundings. Thanks to the nature of field education, we provide a rich ocean experience that will invigorate students for a lifetime of appreciation and responsibility. We offer transformative education. It's more than an experience, it changes the way we live.

Sanibel Sea School is the BEST!!! We’ve been coming to Captiva and a Sanibel for years and this is one of the biggest highlights for our kids. The instructors are so knowledgeable and wonderful with the kids. We’re hoping to come back next summer for longer time just so our kids can go to Sanibel Sea School longer!! Can’t say enough positive things about it!!

Our interest in Sanibel Sea School Camp brought us to Sanibel in the first place, but with Covid, that was not going to work out. However, we had planned a program on Friday, but lightening forced a cancellation. Upon that determination, Shannon, was so kind to accommodate our family on Saturday. We met her at Islands Causeway Park where she had set up "stations" including cast nets, a seine net and dip nets. Our six grandchildren (ages 3-16), our daughters and sons in law all participated the program. She showed how to use them all and, as she used them to bring up some examples of what we would find, she identified each and told us a little about them. Our grandchildren wanted so much to find seahorses, a puffer fish and a crab....we found them all and so many more including tiny shrimp, various species of crabs and fish. Shannon answered many questions and it is easy to tell that she loves her work. We are already thinking about a date next summer to return. It was a great experience and will become a wonderful memory.

We cannot say enough great things about Sanibel Sea School! They have outstanding naturalists on staff who can teach you and your family more about marine life in an hour than you can learn in grad school, and you will have a great time doing it! My daughter has attended their camps and loved them and always requests to go back. We have also done some socially distanced family learning sessions during this COVID crisis, and they have designed flexible and creative curriculums for us, and we would rank these sessions as the definite highlight of our summer! Sanibel Sea School is a treasure in our community! How lucky we are to have a resource capable of giving a five year old a complete immersion into sea life and have her begging for more!

When we booked the trip to Sanibel, my 12 year old was disappointed to learn the sea school was closed in June. However she was ecstatic when it opened in July. She went to 2 courses back to back and they were excellent. She has attended a dozen classes or so over recent trips and they have all been great. The teachers are super friendly and the content is engaging. She turns 13 soon and it will be her last year to attend. Look forward to sea school developing a teen program!!

My 11-year old daughter and I did the Beach walk together on Thursday morning. Sam G and Isaac were great. They were so friendly, informative and interesting. We learned a lot that we used to help inform the rest of our time together on Sanibel. We impressed others we met on the island with our knowledge of the shells and sea life! My daughter said how glad she was that we did this together first thing--I think she liked knowing about where she was and what she was encountering. This is just the thing to do to make your winter vacation an "educational trip" if your child is missing school! ;)
