Tips for Upcoming Trip to Sanibel Island (9 Replies)
Hi, We'll be arriving on Sanibel Island August 7th and be spending 4 days. We're staying at the Sanibel Sunset Beach Hotel. We'll have two adults in their mid 40's along with our two kids 5(girl) and 7(boy). We're looking for thoughts on what we should put tops on our list for things to do. We have a few plans in mind, but nothing firm yet. My son and I plan to do a fishing charter with Tarpon Bay exploers. We plan to do either the Sanibel Thriller dolphine cruise or do a trip to...More

Sanibel Thriller, Sanibel Thriller, Sanibel Thriller!! My kids are each a year older than yours and they LOVED the Thriller. The beaches with sharks teeth are up by Sarasota, I think, which is about and hour and a half away. You have such a short time on the island that I wouldn't recommend the drive. Spend the time enjoying Sanibel's beaches and all their beautiful shells!
Snorkeling on Sanibel? (4 Replies)
Has anyone done any snorkeling on Sanibel? We are thinking about snorkeling on a 3 hour shelling trip with the Sanibel Island cruise line. Has anyone gone out with them? Done any snorkeling? Thanks!

Your question is a frequently asked one on this forum. One recent discussion concerning water visibility and snorkeling was tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g34616-i231-k34296… You could also do a search on snorkeling around Sanibel on this forum. If you are used to very clear water, you will probably be disappointed with the quality of the snorkeling. The water visibility/conditions can significantly change from one day to the next. So, you would need to pick a day with good conditions, which may...More
Sanibel Island Cruise Line shelling tour? (4 Replies)
We're considering taking this 3-4 hr tour that goes to Cayo Costa for some shelling. Has anyone been with this company and if so how was it? Or other company? Is it worth taking a special trip to Cayo Costa for the shells or can we find plenty of shells on Sanibel and Captiva? Thanks.

I haven't tried this one before - I think mcnaught has... We like Captiva Cruises - and definitely one to Cayo Costa for shelling is worth it. Try the early one - you'll find more shells.
