Lots of cheap shells to take back home. Every shell shop at beaches you visit has the same basic shells and t-shirts. I've gone there several times over the years to get a shell that I found live, but could not take home. Nothing special.

I'm writing this to keep somebody from driving a long distance to this place only to be disappointed, I live only 4 hours away but it was still bad enough. It is jammed with traffic, no parking, and if you do get lucky it's 4 dollars an hour. Take my word you can find nice beaches in Florida without this... More

I always stop to shop here when we visit. A good variety of clothing and gift shops as well as some restaurants. You can get your tourist gifts like the chocolate dipped coconut patties, or find a pretty outfit. Fresh Produce shop there is a very large location for this brand. Plenty of parking front and back. Be sure to... More

This road is the main drag that goes one end to the other end of the island. To reach it you must pay a toll and cross the causeway. Along the way are many shops and places to eat. Plan on entire day for this journey of sand in your feet to sea shell collecting to shopping and eating and... More

This is the main drag through the island and is almost always very busy. There are police officers at several intersection to keep traffic moving and the many bikers and pedestrians safe. Nice show, trinkety shops, bike rentals, restaurants, grocery store all along this road. Pretty much everything you need. If you are patient and cautious this is a great... More

This is the main drag in and out of Sanibel and is busy, busy, busy. Total gridlock by 11am. Best was to see it and get around is by bicycle since they have a separate bike path right along the road. There are shops of every kind along Periwinkle Way, so if you can't find it in a shop along... More

Periwinkle Way follows the "spine" of the island, which is only 6' above sea level. You can find 75% of all shopping and dining on this street. Needless to say, it is very busy.

One of my all time favorite places to go that I went this year with my family in June is Sanibel Island, Florida. Sanibel is one of the few places that is on its private island but is also in proximity to many other Florida favorites. My family, for example, went to Tampa before Sanibel so that we could go... Nice shell shop. Good place for the kids to pick up some unique shells. Most publications on island have a coupon for a free gift. My granddaughter loves to go there and get her free gift.

If you are a shopper this is your road. Unfortunately, it is the only road to get into Sanibel or (of course) off-island. So traffic can get really backed up. They do put a police officer at the intersection to run people through the stop signs. Otherwise you'd have to pack an overnight bag to go the length of Periwinkle!... More
