This is my favorite bookstore. I can spend hours there. There are rich resources in spirituality, philosophy, history, fiction, etc. Something for everyone and extensive CD collection. A must visit when in Sanford!

With another enlargement of Willow Tree Maya has moved across the street to a new address. This is a lovely long space with loft in the back for the music section. Maya has all the great books and music that it had before, but with a more organized layout and a nicer ambiance. If you visit in the other location you might have been put off by the stacks of books about---this is no longer the chase and I was happy to see the number of people visiting the last couple of times I was there. PS I didn't mind the clutter but felt it was just part of the charm---but not everybody does and I think everybody should be happy with the latest edition of the store.

The store is on a corner next to a popular restaurant on First Ave. Outside you can view the jumbled, but always interesting window display of some of their more unusual items.
Be sure to check out the items (multiple books on all manner of subjects from fiction to non- and back again) by the front door for some great bargains. If you go straight in from the front door you'll find a counter on your left and shelves which continue along with quite awhile. They have all subjects but if the location and or organization isn't immediately evident just ask and they can tell you were to look. If you continue along this isle you'll come to a seating area where you can review the books at your leisure or just take a break from the mind numbing selection.
If you turn left at the aisle by the counter you'll enter another room, again full of all manner of book as well as couches for that break we spoke about before.
If you continue to the rear of this room---there's a door to the left there is a whole section of music laid out like an old record store, with again a mind numbing profusion.
As with many used book stores of this kind thing are not always anywhere near organized, but I personally feel that that is a plus for the ambiance.

I recently visited this used book store and fell in love with it. I'm not one to pass up a book store, and I had a hard time walking out after I walked in. This cute little store is part book store, part antique store, and part music store. The back room is full of records and all sorts of musical memorabilia. The books were well organized and reasonably priced. There are even clothes and other sorts of accessories. I left with an armful of books and a dress for just over $30. If you enjoy used bookstores this is not one to miss !! This place is truly a gem !!!! Support your local businesses so places like this don't disappear.

Maya's is one of our favorite places to spend an afternoon #Sanfording. A wonderful welcoming place for locals and tourists alike my children and I always find at least half a dozen fairly priced books we throughly enjoy. The shop makes browsing extremely comfortable with it's kitschy collection of vintage furniture, throw pillows and sofas. It's an old-fashioned bookstore vibe you just can't get in a big box store. Expect to find a are selection of vinyl, eclectic gift items and a friendly, upbeat shop-keeper.

We have visited downtown Sanford several times on our way to or from Virginia to Orlando and points south, and look forward to browsing at Maya's Books and Music. It is an old fashioned used book store with a wide selection, generally categorized for pleasant browsing. We have left books in trade with Maya, who is open 7 days a week. I've found useful books in history, philosophy and religious studies at Maya's, so it is definitely not light-fiction-heavy, though there is plenty of that. The store is about 5 miles off I-4 in downtown Sanford, and I would interrupt any drive along I-4 to see what books I might have missed on earlier trips.

Maya's books and records abundant. And a dog. Slightly musty smelling but for all you tablet readers that's what books smell like. Books on every subject. Little known tip - you can bring your old books in and get store credit towards book and album purchases.

My wife and I were in the Orlando area for a vacation and we visited several used bookstores one of which was highly recommended...it was a disaster as were all of them except for one. The Mayan Bookstore in downtown Sanford Florida is a gem...it is a real bookstore overflowing with a good selection of every kind of book. It has that wonderful bookstore smell unlike the sanitized sterility of modern bookstores. This is primarily a used bookstore and I had to limit myself to three books because of space limitations in our luggage. I could easily have bought 20 books with no problem. If yo are in the Orlando area it is about 20 miles northeast of the city...go and browse.
