The zoo is great, saw many animals and birds. Water splash area has lots of comfortable chairs to sit in.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 21, 2023
- KevinAbingdon, Virginia93 contributionsNice day at the zoo, but improvements need for the animalsThe zoo needs major updating to accommodate the animals in a better setting. They allow smoking just outside the actual zoo and to non smokers very nasty, unfortunately there were some obnoxious people that were tapping on glass or enclosures and disturbing the animals. Overall an average experience and sad for the animalsVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 2, 2024
- Carol Ann JGermantown, New York3,040 contributionsZoo and Gardens in One TripThe Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a nice place to visit for kids of all ages. The zoo is in a lovely park-like setting with the gardens all around. It is not large but nice to visit for two or three hours depending on how long one stops to observe different animals. Unfortunately, several of the animals were not in their habitats on the day we visited. Nevertheless, we liked what we did see, and especially enjoyed watching the Spider Monkeys interact with one another. The zoo also has a fun water splash area for children with changing rooms.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 14, 2024
- Steven CSeminole, Florida1,105 contributionsNOT THE BEST WE'VE VISITEDMy wife and I visited this zoo while vacationing in the area recently. There is ample, free, off-street parking, and the entrance fee is reasonable with some discounts available. They also have play areas for kids. Unfortunately, that is where the positives stopped for us. The whole place was under construction during our visit with many of the paths blocked so we couldn't figure out how to traverse portions of the property to see some of the exhibits, even with their maps. While they did have some signage, it could have been much better, especially considering the extensive construction work that was underway. Some of the exhibit areas were also of insufficient size for the animals they held. Finally, they claim to be a 'botanical garden' however, most of the plants aren't marked and there aren't informational markers anywhere that tell you about what is planted on the property. Overall, we were disappointed and we won't be in a rush to visit again in future.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 16, 2024

We had a great time at this zoo. It is set in a lot of trees and foliage and that is why it says botanical gardens. We got there when it opened on a Thursday morning and we were the only ones there for a while. Later, more people came but it was very easy to social distance. The animals, in the morning were very active and easy to see as we had a 2 year old with us. They have a nice variety of animals for a small zoo. After we toured the zoo, we visited the splash pad where they were allowing only 50 people in at a time.
It was a nice little splash pad for the 2 year old to cool off.
All of the employees and docents were very nice.
Because of the corona virus, not everything is open but they are doing their best and it was great to walk around outside.

We love zoos and visit them whenever we travel. This is a nice small zoo. We were able to see a good number and variety of animals without walking a huge amount, since the animal habitats are mostly clustered around a central boardwalk path. There were Chinese lanterns set up throughout the zoo grounds during our visit on Dec. 27, which were very colorful and pretty, even during the day. All in all, we saw everything here in just under two hours. (Families with kids along would no doubt stay longer.) There was free parking and a reasonable admission charge.

We decided to go to the Central Florida Zoo because we figured it was small and we could get through it with grandparents, and kids! We have a 13 year old as well as an 8 year old, who both enjoyed the zoo. My parents enjoyed the size for walking! The wood walking pathway was a cool touch, but it was slippery a bit.
My kids enjoy any zoo, and we had a good time seeing animals we don't get to see in Michigan!
The barn area was cool and really close up, the macaws were beautiful, and my kids watched them for a while! Great snake/frog exhibit too! Close up and everyone was active!
The giraffes (a family favorite) were beautiful and it was very cool to see them close!
We stayed and watched the bears for a while and the staff in their "house" were knowledgeable and friendly!
Thank you for a wonderful morning with 3 generations of animal lovers!

Went for the adult evening (once a month activity) and had the best time. Not at all crowded. Had to wear masks and do social distancing, but everyone was very respectful and took turns if you wanted to get closer to an exhibit. Not all exhibits were open and could not feed the animals - which was disappointing but understandable. The staff were super nice and very helpful. I usually never buy anything at gift shops, but this time bought a bunch of stuff animals just to support the zoo as they are having a tough time. Please do go and enjoy.

It was awful! There were more fake animals there then real ones. Very bad layout for the kids to even see the real animals. Birds and monkeys stuffed into tiny enclosures.
Paid to feed the giraffes but “they are not always hungry in the afternoon because of the morning feedings”. Changing areas were hot with no air. The Bathroom by the food building had 2 TINY stalls that could barely fit me never mind with a 3 yr old! We were told that there was another bathroom at another part of the park that was bigger but out of order!
It was such a disappointment. We will not be returning! It’s a shame since we live fairly close.

Go. If your anywhere near just go. The staff really goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your visit. The animal's "enclosures" (many of the birds are not enclosed) are spacious and you don't see the pacing you often see animals doing at zoos. We did the rhino encounter and it was amazing! The staff was incredible. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They did not rush us and even took pictures with our cameras for us. We learned a great deal about "PJ" and the keepers love for and dedication to him is infectious. We tried to feed the giraffes but they weren't hungry and the staff actually tried to give us our money back. That would never happen at our local zoos.

Zoos are a mixed bag for me, I love to see the animals but am distressed by the living conditions they live in. While many modern zoos make a sincere effort to provide a decent habitat, this zoo is not one of them. The enclosures are small and barren. The animals are clearly bored and several exhibit neurotic pacing behavior. Presently several features are closed, splash pad and railway in particular. If you have any empathy for these animals you will find this an unpleasant experience.

What a disappointment! Maybe my expectations were too high. However I have been to free zoos with way higher quality exhibits and larger variety of animals. (shoutout to Como Zoo & Lincoln Park Zoo) There was plenty of room for more animals and Florida definitely has the climate for a wide variety of animals. The weather was cooler, but absolutely no reason not to have small indoor viewing areas for the animals who need warmer weather. Or at the least, perhaps reduce admission if 1/4 of the animals are off exhibit.
The staff/keepers were aloof and did not interact with us even when we walked right up next to them to observe animals. (No even “any questions about this animal?”) They seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than any of their paying customers.
I wound not return or recommend this zoo to anyone. What a waste of of a round trip Uber ride from our Universal hotel, and we could have been having fun at the park!

A great zoo! The entire grounds are very walkable, giving you great viewpoints of all of the animals. There are regular concrete paths as well as wooden boardwalks to direct you around the zoo. Lots of signs to describe what you are seeing and the history of the animals on exhibit. The zoo also has lots of seating for relaxing and viewing animals for extended periods of time. The staff was very friendly, and the ticket taker had a very cool frog sweatshirt. There are a lot of zoo guests as well, with squirrels and lizards running around everywhere. Those that weren't just visiting include rhinos, frogs, fossa, cougar, birds, goats, alligators, monitors, iguanas, turtles, lemurs, eagles, porcupines, giraffes, cheetahs, warthogs, peccary, tamarin, and more! Well worth a visit next time you are in central Florida. Will be visiting again in the future.

Although we visited during the day you could see the displays set up for the lantern festival. It looked very interesting. It was a beautiful, sunny day to visit. I really enjoyed feeding the giraffe. Such a gentle animal. The zoo is perhaps one of the smallest ones I have ever visited but it did not detract from my experience.

Is there anything healthy to eat there? We are debating whether to eat before our arrival or not. We don't eat fried or battered food. Looking for grilled chicken or salmon or salads.

Has anyone that has visited here can compare to other zoos in other states? I visited Columbus zoo LOTS. Cincinnati zoo prior to harambes departure. My friend been to riverbanks in Columbia. I’ve been to zootastic and tigerworld. Ohio, South Carolina, and North Carolina. We travel through here. I thought about is it worh budgeting time when I’m trying to get to Orlando or should go to Jax instead? Details please. My faves are any cats!

Unfortunately, this zoo is rather sad compared to other zoos around the nation. Nice for a short visit with young kids, though.

There is shade throughout the park, but not a lot. There are several buildings w/ attractions inside, that have AC in them, so you can cool off some.
The rest areas where they have cool drinks and snacks, are usually shaded pretty well.
On a hot day, it will be pretty muggy. But, I still think it's worth the trip.
