We went for a walk here on a Saturday. It was a little difficult to find parking - because many of the parking spots were reserved for the marina. The path around the park is about a mile long. There are a few benches by the water - which were nice to sit at and watch the planes land and the boats coming and going.

A Lovely and Historical Park

In March, we were in St. Petersburg, for a series of meetings for my wife. Most days, I was solo, and was just exploring all of St. Petersburg, taking in the sights, the parks and looking for interesting wine lists.

The first morning, I headed from our hotel, the Vinoy, along the harbor, and snaking through a half-dozen parks. I ended up at Demens Landing Park, which justs out into the Bay, separating the Central Yacht Basin, from the South Yacht Basin.

This park was the site of the first railroad pier in St. Petersburg, serving the area, mostly with lumber. It was named for Peter Demens, a Russian nobleman, sawmill owner and railroad tycoon. Besides this pier, turned park, he named St. Petersburg, after his home city in Russia. There are memorial signs around Demens Landing Park, and several commemorative statues. It’s a lovely plot of land, with mature trees, and paved walking paths, plus shaded benches everywhere.

I was admiring the views of the Bay, and the other, near-by parks, but could not access areas of the Park, due to construction. Much seemed to be in preparation for the upcoming St. Petersburg Grand Prix, but then some was for ongoing construction at Demens Landing Park. On the south end, all bicycle and pedestrian traffic was rerouted, making parts of the Park inaccessible.

However, and even with all of the construction and closures, I got to enjoy much of Demens Landing Park, and hope to return, and see it in its full glory - with no construction barricades. Note to self: avoid the time leading up to the Grand Prix. Even with the closures, I probably spent an hour in Demens Landing Park, and could have spent more.

Walking paths, benches, a beautiful view of the water. If you turn toward the gulf, you'd never know you are in a city. This is a relaxing place where you can unwind.

Walking in there are no real sidewalks, It appears that they expect everyone to drive in and park at the waterfront. Not a bad park, we actually saw a hawk take a jay and eat it on the grass very near us !

Although a small park, it's large enough to experience a sense of refuge from the all-too-busy downtown St. Petersburg (in season). Within walking distance of all of the activity, this quiet, unassuming park offers picnic tables, a grant vista of landing or soaring planes, bayside breezes and a 'low population.'

Lovely area for a stroll under the trees on a sunny day, lots of seating to gaze over the waters watching the many boats. Could benefit from a bit of cover in the event of rain.

Attended the American Stage presentations outdoors in this park. It is a perfect venue for this type of theater. A lovely park all around.
