At Shell Key Preserve, in the Tierra Verde area, be on the lookout for manatee, dolphin, mangroves, starfish, mullet, and many other local marine life.
Seasonally (December - March) we also offer a Tarpon Springs Manatee tour! Paddle through the bayous and learn more about the historic area.

First, Mother Nature gave us a 75 degree, minimal wind PERFECT DAY for this tour. Then, we really lucked out and got Chris as our guide! He was patient and made us feel very at ease getting in and out of the boat, he was extremely knowledgeable-about the ecosystem and the area. It truly was a perfect day 😎

Had a wonderful day out kayaking between the Keys. Jenna was a wonderful tour guide, very knowledgeable, super helpful, went above and beyond by helping our girls(ages 11,17). They wanted to be in their own boat but quickly fell way behind. Jenna was going to help them by hauling them attached to her own kayak. We rushed back and switched the girls out and went on with the tour. Sadly, the wind was too much for us to go all the way to Shell Key so we had to head back. We had a lot of fun even though we didn’t get to do the whole tour. The company will call us to reschedule or do a refund. Thank you Jenna for a wonderful day. Note to self.... need to make a contingency plan for old age because my girls are not going to be up to the task.

All I can say is WOW! I never expected to have this much fun. Jenna was amazing and kept us engaged with so many fun facts about the area, I even tried to stump her with obscure wild life questions and she knew the answers. I can’t wait to go again, it was well worth the drive from Brandon. We even saw dolphins!

We booked our kayak tour of Shell Key Preserve specifically to be able to do the night time kayak to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Carmen was our guide, who was knowledgeable, friendly, thoughtful, and an absolute PRO at capturing all aspects of our trip with her camera (later sharing the photos with us)! I highly recommend the night time kayak if you are interested in learning more about the unique features of the Florida coast, seeing wildlife, and having a fantastic guide from start to finish.

Clear kayaking with Raven this morning was fantastic! Very friendly tour guide with lots of knowledge, showing us the wildlife and other fun facts on the area. I thought, how fun it would be to be a kayak tour guide....then Raven plucked a horseshoe crab and sea urchin out of the water to show us...nope...I'll leave that to the professionals! 😂 Highly recommend this tour. I'm sure it's quite a different experience every time they go out.

Alessia did a great job. She explained the mangroves well and also how hurricane Irma changed the landscape and made the water surrounding Terra Verdia more vibrant. We also enjoyed watching the white and gray pelicans on the sandbar. We loved the little sea urchin all dressed up on her finest that Alessia pulled up from the water. She told us how they purposefully adorn themselves with things they find interesting. She was very helpful getting my sister and I who are 66 and 69 yo in and out of the kayak. She was very accommodating to the number of selfies we wanted. We were also very impressed that she picked up at least a dozen empties teens left behind on Shell Island. There were 3 of us in our group and we each want to give her 5 stars for a total of fifteen stars.

This is a must if you are vacationing in the St.Pete area and like a little exercise and adventure. Matt, our kayak guide for the 2 hour tour, was fun, informative, and was there to make sure we had a great time. Loved stopping at the Shell Preserve to do some shell hunting. Matt was great in telling me where to look for whole sand dollars and I scored one pretty quickly. I picked up lots more shells as well for my collection. Matt was a great photographer and we came away with some awesome pictures.

This was so much fun!! The small group feels like a private tour - it’s the perfect amount of time, water is crystal clear and sun was shining! My family loved going through the amazing mangroves and spending time at the beautiful beach on Shell Key. We especially enjoyed cruising with Frank the Cormorant swimming and diving under the kayaks! Cara was an amazing guide - so knowledgeable and friendly! No surprise this is voted the #1 activity - believe the reviews and book!

Chris was an amazing tour guide! This was our first time clear kayaking with the family and he did such a great job at keeping everyone together. Going through the mangroves were definitely my favorite. It was nice to learn the history behind shell key and all the wildlife that surrounds it. Chris was very informative and took the time to answer all of our questions during the tour. Highly recommend!

We went kayaking as a family on a beautiful morning in Shell Key Preserve. The sky was cloudless and there was just a light breeze, so it was warm and no need for sweatshirts or jackets which was great. My kids are 11, 14, and 17. Matt was a great guide and was knowledgeable about the birds, sea life, and mangrove forests in the area. A couple of sharks were spotted and a stingray, but unfortunately from my vantage point I didn’t see them but my son did. My favorite part was when we walked the kayaks across an absolutely gorgeous sandbar to a little island. The water is crystal clear and the sand is soft and powdery on the sand bar. I would recommend this trip if you enjoy kayaking.

Thank you for reaching out! We do not see alligators on this tour since we are paddling in salt water from the Gulf of Mexico. We will see ocean life such as conch, crabs, shoreline birds, and possibly dolphins or manatees!
