St. Petersburg Jungle Prada Site History Tour

103 reviews
The Jungle Prada Site Tour explores the last 1,000 years of Florida history at one of most important historical landmarks in Tampa Bay. Jungle Prada was the site of a Tocobaga Indian village for over 600 years, and it is generally recognized as the 1528 landing place of Panfilo de Narvaez and Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca. Discover one the best-preserved American Indian mounds in all of Florida on this 75-minute guided historical walking adventure. We will escort you to the top of the private Anderson/Narvaez mound, a 900-foot-long, 25-foot-high shell midden. This family-owned property also boasts a 3-acre, Florida-friendly waterfront garden, a small museum with archaeological artifacts from the site, and dozens of free-roaming peacocks. The tour is full of fantastic story telling. It's an immersive historical and botanical experience that should not be missed. Reservations and facemasks are required. Tours are limited to a maximum of 10 people.

This was a very interesting experience to visit this place for a corporate event. Following the event we had some time to visit the museum. I do not know how authentic this place is, but it looks very impressive and provides lots of information about Native Americans.

My husband and I visited the James Museum today. It far exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The building itself is a piece of art with it’s extraordinary architecture which really compliments the very extensive collection. The quantity of art as well as the quality of sculptures and paintings was amazing. This is a museum that is well worth seeing and spending some time viewing. Very impressive.

Im am so happy that they take COVID and guest safety so seriously! Temp checks, social distancing, and all while not limiting the overall museum experience. The staff and docents were all friendly and knowledgeable, from the front desk, to docents, to guards, to gallery aids, and retail. My husband and I took the complementary guided tour which focused on things you would not think of as “Western” and it was great! A good tour for those with limited time or those that might feel overwhelmed by art museums. This museum is so much more than paintings of cowboys! Loved the native artist gallery, and the special exhibit on gay rodeos. The only thing I would change is to add more latinx and chicanx art. We will definitely be back!

The architecture is a work of art in itself and perfectly showcases the collection. The art is very high quality throughout, and is beautifully displayed. We were very impressed and spent several hours exploring. Loved the vibrant colors in some of these works, so evocative of the West. Wonderful visit!

I'm not one for museums, but there was a free day to go with the family and my wife wanted to go. It was a nice little museum, but nothing really stood out as a must go and see...
