In the gift shop, the employee behind the counter was very nice and pleasant. You get your tickets to go into the lighthouse from the gift shop (if you want to go in there). For my children, because of their ages, they got in for free. We only had to pay for my husband and I to go. (If I remember correctly, it was just about $13 for the two of us after tax).
You take the tickets you got from the gift shop over to the light house and there is someone waiting inside to take the tickets. I confirmed with the gift shop employee that there is a limit of people that can be in the lighthouse at one time, but if I recall correctly, it’s something like 14 people at once.
If you’re taking kids in, you need to be above a certain height level for liability reasons to go up the ladder at the top (I believe it’s either 40 or 42 inches is what they told me).
When in the lighthouse, if you are tall, while going up the spiral staircase, WATCH YOUR HEAD! There is one landing on the way up if you need to take a rest (though there is nowhere to sit there). Near the top, there is a 8-runged sturdy metal ladder there that you have to climb up to and through a slightly narrow square hole in the ceiling (but my 250 pound self of average height could get through) to get to the actual top (which, if you’re going on a hot and sunny day, it will be very hot up there).
Also, at the gift shop, they do have the special red flashlights there (and yes, they also sell AAA batteries that go with it if you don’t have any) during baby turtle season to help keep the hatching baby turtles from getting confused trying to get to the ocean at night. We bought them for ghost crab searching at night on the beach.
Right behind the lighthouse gift shop, there is a great public access point to the beach! And also a rinse station right behind the gift shop at the area where the bathrooms are outside.
The museum inside of the gift shop was very small and free. They had very cool and antique items from very old shipwrecks and historical information about the lighthouse as well.

This was a cute lighthouse with only 92 stairs that offers a pretty panoramic view of mid-SGI. The one room museum you enter prior to purchasing tickets was interesting & takes just a few minutes to get a feel of what the keepers’ lives were like. There is a scuttle crawl up the ladder to access the 360 view so be prepared to climb a short ladder to have a rewarding view. It’s 24” wide so keep that in mind. The staff was friendly & took care to practice safe COVID sanitation measures.

We love the lighthouse! There are 92 stairs & a ladder to get to the “light”. The climb is so worth it! The views are incredible! We love the gift shop/small museum. The staff is always friendly and helpful, a wealth of information. They have a well run system so we can continue to go up during the pandemic.

I understand the height policy 100%! But the people inside are friendly at first but they appear to really not want children in the museum or gift shop. If the buttons on the computer are pressed too hard or they hear it pressed they will immediately tell the other to make sure the parent is watching even though they can see you right there. I also feel that someone should never tell a parent in front of the children that they should just buy them a toy that they will forget they couldn’t go in. I’m sorry they won’t forget because you bought them something. Kids remember experiences not things. We were there for the adventure not toys. Seeing it was enough without adding the insult to the injury because I wasn’t buying my kids an overpriced dollar tree doll when I could go buy them 10 for the price they were being sold for. I had even said ok we will come back to go inside when we have another adult and we can take turns going in. And reprimanding good parents for being right there while the kids are on the computer is a little much. Maybe if it’s so concerning then don’t have the buttons and have the videos play automatically. 🤷🏼♀️

Small museum housed in the same dwelling as a small gift shop. The museum had nice displays and provided a thorough history of St George Light.
The gift shop was small and not well-stocked. The sales associate was not exactly the most welcoming or helpful woman. Hoping to find a local shop where a photo, print, or painting of the lighthouse may be purchased.
There was a sign requiring visitors to wash hands prior to entering. The bottle of hand sanitizer was EMPTY.

Lovely reconstructed historic lighthouse, right downtown. Good museum exhibits in the adjoining building, along with a nice gift shop. Tickets are required to ascend to the top of the lighthouse. Lots of steps, and quite a narrow entry at the top of a ladder to get inside the very top, where the views are. Can see for miles in all directions. Friendly, well-informed docents. Definitely worth the climb.

Nice little museum beside the lighthouse to share history of the lighthouse and the story on how it was moved! Enjoyed walking up the lighthouse and seeing the views of SGI. The ladies working inside/outside of museum and inside lighthouse were very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend visiting seeing SGI for the first time.

So we have a handicapped daughter who is 19. Her goal was to get to the top. The host at the bottom allowed us to have to time needed to get her up the steps and the ladder and down before he sent others up. It is a bit hard but with the men in our group we got her up. It was worth it for her accomplishment and the View. We love Light house so cool

Tony and I stopped at the Lighthouse and Museum to look around. It's a lovely little park near the waterfront and the center at the end of bridge.
Great little historical lighthouse and the light keepers house is now the museum. The visitors center in the same park.

Great activity on the SGI. It was an easy hike up on the winding stairs - completely doable if you are at all in shape. The opening via ladder to the top viewing area is tight. I wondered if there should be a girth limit, but for us it was just part of the experience. Host was fun and friendly. View from the top was worth it all!

Yes, the Lighthouse is open to the public. Fee is $5/adult and $3/children. It's small but climb to the top for a view. The museum is interesting and free. Souvenirs of course are available and part of the funds go for upkeep of the Lighthouse. You see the lighthouse as you enter St. George Island from the bridge.
