Small museum housed in the same dwelling as a small gift shop. The museum had nice displays and provided a thorough history of St George Light.
The gift shop was small and not well-stocked. The sales associate was not exactly the most welcoming or helpful woman. Hoping to find a local shop where a photo, print, or painting of the lighthouse may be purchased.
There was a sign requiring visitors to wash hands prior to entering. The bottle of hand sanitizer was EMPTY.

I understand the height policy 100%! But the people inside are friendly at first but they appear to really not want children in the museum or gift shop. If the buttons on the computer are pressed too hard or they hear it pressed they will immediately tell the other to make sure the parent is watching even though they can see you right there. I also feel that someone should never tell a parent in front of the children that they should just buy them a toy that they will forget they couldn’t go in. I’m sorry they won’t forget because you bought them something. Kids remember experiences not things. We were there for the adventure not toys. Seeing it was enough without adding the insult to the injury because I wasn’t buying my kids an overpriced dollar tree doll when I could go buy them 10 for the price they were being sold for. I had even said ok we will come back to go inside when we have another adult and we can take turns going in. And reprimanding good parents for being right there while the kids are on the computer is a little much. Maybe if it’s so concerning then don’t have the buttons and have the videos play automatically. 🤷🏼♀️

The St. George Island lighthouse is the current version of a multi-generation historical lighthouse daring back to the 1840s. The museum is well thought out and explains the historical significance of the lighthouse and even some if the key technology improvements through the decades. Plus for $5 you can climb the 92 steps, up a short ladder and see 360 degrees around the island.

We love the lighthouse! There are 92 stairs & a ladder to get to the “light”. The climb is so worth it! The views are incredible! We love the gift shop/small museum. The staff is always friendly and helpful, a wealth of information. They have a well run system so we can continue to go up during the pandemic.

We loved this lighthouse! We were so impressed with the residents of St. George Island who joined forces to rebuild the lighthouse once it collapsed. I love hearing stories of communities working together. The interior of this lighthouse was beautiful with the original bricks showing and the wooden, spiral staircase is the so easy to climb. The last few feet to climb you have to take a ladder into a small opening. That was unusual. My husband & I are in the over 65 crowd...but we did it. When we finished the climb, we were given fun stickers stating that we climbed to the top which was a nice gesture.

Lovely reconstructed historic lighthouse, right downtown. Good museum exhibits in the adjoining building, along with a nice gift shop. Tickets are required to ascend to the top of the lighthouse. Lots of steps, and quite a narrow entry at the top of a ladder to get inside the very top, where the views are. Can see for miles in all directions. Friendly, well-informed docents. Definitely worth the climb.

I love lighthouses so we stopped here on our way to our next destination. We paid the $5 per person to climb to the top. The lower part of the climb is wider than most lighthouses since this is a rebuilt lighthouse (and not a historic one), but as you reach the top, this one had the smallest hole to get through to reach the top. Nice little museum and gift shop.

So we have a handicapped daughter who is 19. Her goal was to get to the top. The host at the bottom allowed us to have to time needed to get her up the steps and the ladder and down before he sent others up. It is a bit hard but with the men in our group we got her up. It was worth it for her accomplishment and the View. We love Light house so cool

Tony and I stopped at the Lighthouse and Museum to look around. It's a lovely little park near the waterfront and the center at the end of bridge.
Great little historical lighthouse and the light keepers house is now the museum. The visitors center in the same park.

This experience was wonderful. You get to go all the way up to the top and the young lady that takes your tickets gives a wonderful history about the lighthouse. They have special events during the full moon as well and the view is breathtaking. The gift shop has some great items in all price ranges. A definite to do with the family!

Yes, the Lighthouse is open to the public. Fee is $5/adult and $3/children. It's small but climb to the top for a view. The museum is interesting and free. Souvenirs of course are available and part of the funds go for upkeep of the Lighthouse. You see the lighthouse as you enter St. George Island from the bridge.
