Huge oak tree. Hundreds of years old. Branches are cut off at the ends so not to encroach on the property. The branches are as thick as large trees. Their are also palm treens growing at the center of the tree. The tree is almost 700 years old.

Stands a tree so grand, it's the talk of the days.
The Old Senator, wise and so serene,
A giant of nature, a timeless dream.

With branches that whisper secrets of old,
And leaves that have stories, both daring and bold,
This ancient oak stands with grace and with pride,
A majestic old friend where shadows reside.

Its trunk, like a pillar of nature’s own might,
Spreads a canopy wide that’s a beautiful sight.
Perfect for picnics or a serene, quiet stay,
Under its boughs, you'll feel peace in the sway.

So visit this wonder, let your spirit be free,
In the shade of the Old Senator’s grand canopy.
For moments of magic and history’s charm,
It’s a place where the soul finds its calm.

Great story and beautiful site. We stayed at Villa 1565 so the tree was the site of our breakfast coffee and evening cocktail each night. Easy to walk to from the exit of the Fountain of Youth-less than a block. Not much to “do” but glad we got to see it in person. Could use more in situ explanations and history information on plaques for visitors NOT on the trolley tour.

Big old tree. Maybe the biggest old tree in the city. Still its a big old tree. I need to use 100 words - still just a big old tree.

It’s a big tree. It’s located in the parking lot of a cheap motel. There is no signage to indicate why it is important. I guess it’s old and has some significance relating to the founding of St. Augustine, as the Fountain of Youth Park where this occurred is just up the street.

We are nature enthusiasts so we appreciate big ol' beautiful trees such as the Old Senator. If you are driving, I'd suggest putting directions in for "Villa 1565" which is a hotel and the tree is located in the middle of the parking lot. (The address on trip advisor took us to the wrong place). You can't miss it! Stop and take a pic or two

Ok, it’s just a tree but 600 Years is old, especially in hurricane country. Located in the Ramada inn parking lot which makes for a bit of a disappointment- but go see the tree!

Beautiful old tree - hundreds of years old to be exact. You can see this tree if you take the Old Town Trolley Tour, as it's one of their stops. There's not much to it, it's just a tree that sadly is surrounded by a parking lot of a slightly dumpy looking motel. Nonetheless, a cool piece of St. Augustine history you should add to your sightseeing list.

Located at 137 San Marco Avenue, adjacent to Howard Johnson and just south of Old Jail, Old Town Trolley and Fountain of Youth, is a 600-year-old oak tree treat. The trolleys circle this magnificent tree that has survived hundreds of hurricanes and tornadoes, a testament to the cliché, “Strong as an oak.” This attraction is free, but offers a wealth of education to those of any age. It stands as a testament to nature preservation centuries before that gained popularity. Young people particularly can learn from this. How many will plant an oak and know that it may still be there in six centuries?
