Mortality & Morning tour was great!
We have toured this great home before and always learn so much. We took their mortality & morning tour and received so much more information about the time period. It was great that it was not a ghost tour but about the practical traditions of the period of the home. Excellent tour!

So Many Stories In One House
This house is like a flower with so much history when you peel back the petals, each decade brings something new. How the house is decorated and the items in the room really help to tell the stories of those who called this place home. The dinning room and the parlors were very interesting to me. It is said their might be ghost here. My wife said she thought she saw the shadow of someone in the attic/servant quarters. The audio guided tour really helps.

    History comes alive here
This is an outstanding museum, full of history of the owners, the city and the “unseen hands” of the enslaved and indentured servants. We enjoyed every moment because we had a docent tour all to ourselves. Go in the morning when the museum opens. The gardener took time to tell us about the plants and trees while we sat in the garden. I thought I had reviewed the museum already.

Learn about the for runner to the B & B
Walk back in time and learn how people lived. The house was owned by 3 women, before it became a museum. It is was a boarding house, and different types of people lived there. It is our modern day version of a B & B.

    Best museum in town!
I went to the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum as I was traveling through the area.I found this little museum on Aviles street and found it so fascinating. You’ll learn about the history of the house as well as the people who owned it. Make sure to come by this wonderful tour, so worth it.

    The loveliest hidden-gem
I have been to this museum before but it was such as great little hidden-gem that I just had to go back, and bring my family along with me. We decided to take an audio tour this time and we thought it was so wonderful and informative. Highly recommended!

My visit to the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum was excellent! I took the audio tour and it was so informative. I felt like I was immersed in the history of the house. After my audio tour, I looked around the gift shop and chatted with the staff. They were so sweet and answered every question that I had about the house. I had so much fun and I will definitely be back soon!

    Charming...in Every Way!
Charming experience. A photographer's dreamscape. History buff's delight. Ashley the tour guide was so welcoming and informative. She answered every question and didn't rush the visit. I parked on metered street about 5 minutes away. Bottled water available for purchase in gift shop. Restrooms available.

    Don't Miss Out!
We stumbled upon the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum on social media and decided to check it out on our recent trip to St. Augustine. What a lucky find! We opted for the audio tour, which was informative and engaging, bringing the history of the house and its past residents to life.

Informative tour of upper-middle class lifestyle in early 1800’s St Augustine
As their brochure states, “every room has a story”. This coquina structure built in 1798 is owned by the non-profit organization Colonial Dames and is an excellent testimony of life in St Augustine during the early 1800’s. Tour guide Ashley did a fine job. The structure is preserved as it wound have been during its time as a boarding house for the upper middle-class and serviced by enslaved people. It is located directly across the street from the B&B Casa de Solana (1739) on the very beautiful Aviles Street.

The Ximenez-Fatio House was a boarding house that dates back hundreds of years in St. Augustine. What is notable is that every room in the house is both preserved and open to tour. The tour itself is an audio guide with 23 stops of 1-3 minutes each that goes through the dining room, the many bedrooms (the house was a boarding house) and the laundry and kitchen. I appreciated being able to thoroughly explore this interesting property.

On our first trip to St. Augustine we were not even aware of this house, but on our second go around at the city we were happy to have stumbled upon it. It offers a very interesting look at colonial history in St. Augustine, especially mentioning the important people that made their way to the city in the 1800s to stay in this boarding house. it doesn't take very long to get through the house, but it's well worth it.

We came very close to not going to this museum because I was not getting a sense of what there was to see from the website. But we decided to go and I’m so glad we did. This home served as several businesses for the families who lived upstairs and also as a boarding home. It’s been restored to the time it was a boarding home. You visit pretty much all the rooms in the home. Our tour took about an hour and our docent was very knowledgeable. There are a lot of very cool antiques and personal items throughout the home.

We only had time to see one house/museum in St. Augustine and we're so glad we chose this. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, handing us sanitized palm fans to carry throughout the tour. Our guide, Shelby was wonderful and so knowledgable about history. We were the only people on the tour and she was able to connect with my teenage daughter who is usually shy. We learned so much about Florida during the 1800's. I had no clue that to travel from St. Augustine to Tallahassee, people would take a boat up to Charleston, catch a sea-worthy vessel and sail all the way around the southern tip of Florida. Because travel was so arduous people usually stayed at their destination for months or years - which is why this house was so important as a boarding house (pre hotel era) from 1830-1875.

With Covid closing my usual haunts, I’ve taken to visiting the smaller museums in town and I am very glad I did. This museum is wonderfully done. The rooms are at your leisure and you can actually walk about the space and examine everything up close - no touching of course. This allows for a closer examination of history than most places will ever let you. The audio tour by room is very engaging and full of interesting observations and tid bits. You can tell this place is well loved. The director, Roger, was there and is an engaging person to talk to. Lovely experience and highly recommended.

This turned out to be an unexpected delight. The Ximenez-Fatio House represents an excellent view on a period of history in St Augustine. We found that it uniquely showed us a period of time and the lives of its residents in that time. When we entered, no group tours or audio headsets were available but this did not distract from our enjoyment. In fact, a young man, who perhaps acts as a guide for the group tours, noticed us and asked if we had any questions. When we exhibited interest, he promptly took led us on a small personal tour of some rooms and made the excellent suggestion to visit the 3rd floor where the servants/slave quarters were located. This shed a deeper understanding on the life and times of St Augustine. Worth more than the price of admission\!

this house costs $10 to tour and an audio tour comes with it. You get to tour the majority of the complex with information about building materials as well as who and when lived there and what they did. I enjoyed that you get to go in each room and walk among the furniture and flooring. So many old homes have areas roped off, but here you can walk around and be among the things as a person who lived there would. Of course, they ask you not to sit on the furniture. Good place for families with children.

21 years ago my husband proposed to me in the little garden area of the Ximenez-Fatio House. We celebrated our anniversary in the ancient city this week and decided to stop into the museum and check on “our place.” I am so pleased at how well-loved and well-maintained the property is by its docents. You can tell that everyone on staff is passionate about what they do! The gift shop has so many lovely items from local artists, even a lovely replica of the Caravaca cross found on site. It was so nice speaking with the docents in the gift shop! They were so sweet and so helpful, it made our visit extra special!

This historic boarding house is truly one of the best attractions in St. Augustine! It is very authentic and well preserved. Each room is furnished in the style of the day. The tour is excellent! It is led by a real guide, not an audio device. She was engaging and enthusiastic and kept the children and my interest for almost an hour. We learned so much! The grounds of the house are beautifully kept and there is an attractive, small gift shop. It is quite close to the center of the historic district. The time period is early 1800’s. It is well worth a trip!

Full disclosure: I turned off the audio tour after the second stop, preferring to just walk through without it.

This atmospheric house is not fancy by any means, but seems very historically accurate. My favorite part was viewing the second and third stories. I believe the docent said the third story was just recently opened to tour.

This is well worth a stop, especially to get an old Florida feel.
