If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, it's a great place to go and chill and get your calm back. Not sure that it's a must see though.

Visiting this place, where the first Catholic Mass was celebrated centuries ago, is a moving experience. Places for exterior and interior reflections abound. The chapel and statue of Our Lady as a nursing mother evoke enriched meaning of the Holy Family.

Grounds were not all open due, I think, to past hurricane damage. We went to the small museum. A volunteer was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The small, mainly one room, museum was not bad. Free, but donations accepted and appreciated. The information was Catholic oriented,...More

After walking around St. Augustine you can't miss seeing the giant cross from many locations. My curiosity got the better of me and we had to go check it out, I am so glad that we did. The Cross itself is really beautiful but the...More

The Catholic Diocese is asking for a zoning change to put in an amphitheater and parking garage on this Holy site. If you care about historical significance of this place, please write to the St. Augustine planning and zoning board!

One cannot understand the history of St Aug without knowing the religious ties. This mission is called "sacred acres" and rightly so.

We stumbled upon this magnificent shrine while walking in St. Augustine. Little did I know that this was the first shrine in the United States dedicated to the Blessed Mother. You definitely feel the presence of the Holy Spirit there and immediately know you are...More

Although it is still under repair due to damage sustained during Matthew and Irma, the property is still a wonderful walk on the grounds of this historic location.

Did not see any dress code, use good taste only. The area is being worked on and not easy to get to by the Graveyard. The bridge was being worked on to get to the old chapel and you had to go around. The Museum and... More

You seem to have terrible luck with restaurants all the time! I ate breakfast at Village Inn twice on my last visit and it was great. I got the egg substitute omelette with all kinds of fresh vegetabes in it, side of yummy whole grain toast and some fruit. It was great. I will admit the coffee wasn't that good though.

Romantic Weekend in St. Augustine (5 Replies)
Yes, we're locals and we still vacation here... we just love St. Augustine! We're celebrating our anniversary this weekend and have some things planned- namely dinner at Collage. We've planned out most of our food but what would be on your "must do" list for a romantic weekend? Possibilities we've considered: Carriage ride or tasting tour, afternoon at the beach, sunrise together, strolling at Mission of Nombre de Dios, maybe San Sebastian (we've still never gone...) But there have...More

Good ideas already, Allie....I don't think you are missing much (sorry fans) by not going to San Sebastian (after all you have to taste only their wine and it ain't Napa). Grab a box of wonderful chocolates from Claude's and a nice bottle of champagne and take a carriage ride after dinner and kiss at the love tree. OR enjoy that champagne and chocolates on the lawn of the Castillo.....
