The history of this cemetery was incredible. Very well kept and wonderful panels with history. We always try to visit old cemeteries and we were genuinely impressed with this small but full of history place.

We had trouble finding any one who knew where to find this. It is about a block south of the Oldest House.
We went hoping to find some names of the 2nd Seminole War massacre. Unfortunately only the Captain was identified. But is was a true tale of the dangers in our early history. A mass grave was used for those.
This is a very well maintained cemetery with veterans from several wars of subsequent years, and their spouses. A few children were also buried here.

Had a little difficulty finding the place but it was worth the time. Humbling. Sobering. So many lost their lives....many were quite young. Take a minute to read the plaques. Thank you all for your service. Not sure why the pics are sideways.

Walking among the fallen soldiers is sobering. I went early so I was the only one at the cemetery. Very moving.

A beautifully maintained cemetery very reminiscent of the commonwealth war cemeteries in Europe. Interesting pyramids for mayor Dade

First off there is no parking in this area so you have to park by the water front and walk - You will find other things in your walk there and back - So it is well worth it to go see .

I was looking for a place to park in south St. Augustine when I stumbled across this small, but beautiful National Cemetery. It is probably the best maintained cemetery I have ever seen- a peaceful oasis surrounded by private homes. I parked nearby and visited the small pyramids marking the graves of Major Dade, and his men- and was humbled by the beautiful headstones of the veterans buried in the rest of the plots. There is a information plaque at the office/keepers cottage on site. It was then just a short walk to the St. Francis Barracks, and The Oldest House complex.

We were fortunate to take part in the wreath laying ceremony here in December. It was a moving experience that reminded us of the sacrifices so many have made. The most sobering part of the cemetery for me were the Dade Pyramids. They're the mass graves of 1400 soldiers who were reinterred here. The Monuments were reportedly constructed by having each soldier at the St. Francis barracks contribute a day's pay.

The cemetery is small, just 1.3 acres, and goes back to the early 1800's. It's worth a stop.
