My wife and I visited this place during our visit to the St. Augustine area. The only negative is that parking in the downtown area is very difficult to find. Otherwise, this is a good museum for kids of all ages with a lot of history imparted about the pirates we have all heard about and several most have never heard of. There are interactive activities along the way to keep the young kids interested and it is a fun way to spend an hour or two in the AC and out of the hot/humid weather outside. The price isn't going to break your budget and they offer a discount for military and seniors. I would recommend this place for the pirate enthusiast in your family.

It was pouring so I thought I would explore this museum while waiting for the clouds to depart. I wouldn't say that I am a huge pirate fan but I was impressed with the museum layout and would go through it again if I found myself in St. Augustine with different friends. I really enjoyed the treasure hunt game that you have the opportunity of playing after you pay the admission fee. . This little game slowed me down enough to read more display boards than I normally would have thereby adding more time to my visit. Word of advice - be prepared for a lot of children and plan on spending about an hour here.

I took my nephews to this pirate museum and we had an enjoyable visit. It's not a big museum, but it does take some time to see everything if you're stopping to read all the different information about the different artifacts on display. I like to read and explore, so it took us a couple hours. The kids enjoyed the various interactive exhibits, including one which lets you simulate firing a cannon.
There were some interesting displays such as a talking Blackbeard's head animatronic. There are various displays of pirate weaponry and lifestyles.

Having read other people's reviews, apparently there is a guided tour offered here, however we were never told anything about it by the cashiers so we didn't get to participate in that. After seeing people rave about Captain Mayhem's tour, I'd have liked to been able to take that tour. Perhaps the cashiers should do a better job about informing people of the various options here. The cashiers weren't really too friendly either. Neither of them smiled nor seemed very welcoming.

Accessing this pirate museum was easy by foot near the Castillo de San Marcos (they don't have their own parking lot). If you park at the nearby St. Augustine visitors center parking lot it'll cost you $15. You can pay at the parking lot across the street at the fort, but I don't know the price. Otherwise, good luck finding parking around here as it's always crowded.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit to this museum and I recommend seeing it if you're a fan of pirate history and lore. If you receive any of the local coupon magazines there's usually a coupon that can save you a couple dollars per person off admission.

Thank you so much for taking the time to spend with us while in St. Augustine! I'm glad that you were able to explore all the artifacts and interactive parts of our exhibition. We offer our guided tours 4 times each Saturday and on various dates through out the year - I do apologize if you were left uninformed of that particular aspect of our museum. I am glad that you took the time to write to us and we hope that you enjoyed the rest of your adventures in the Nation's Oldest City!

We (four history-loving adults) visited here on Dec. 31 as part of our three days exploring St. Augustine; we had purchased discounted combination tickets online with the Colonial Quarter (reviewed separately).

This was a fun and interesting museum to check out, with nice artifacts and displays on a topic many of us probably know little about beyond popular culture references. As one learns here, piracy was an unfortunate reality of the times (the descriptions of typical “punishments” that were doled out was gruesome). All, in all, it took us about 45 minutes to walk through and see everything. As a history buff, I found it added to my knowledge of the area’s history and of piracy in general. (We did not encounter Captain Mayhem during our visit.)

My only complaint here is that the exhibit areas are small and a bit cramped. It didn’t take too many new visitors entering behind us to crowd the available space, making it hard to linger at exhibits to read all the informational signage, as I wished.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make us a part of your St. Augustine journey - we truly appreciate it! It's true, we don't have a lot of space to feature the 800+ artifacts and exhibits throughout our museum, but I am glad to read that you found a lot of history to learn about and enjoy. Thank you again for bringing your crew to spend a while with ours - we hope to see you again on your next visit to the Nation's Oldest City!

Had this place on my list of things to do so we made an effort to get here, and I just wasn't impressed. I felt this museum would do so much better in a larger building because we felt cramped walking through the exhibits. The exhibits were very informative and some were even interactive. The gift shop & ticket booth were in the same area and it was so crowded we avoided buying a souvenir.

My wife and I visited the museum yesterday after visiting the fort, which we also recommend. Started our self guided tour when William, a gentleman dressed head to toe in what looked like authentic pirate gear addressed the crowd and offered a walking tour. William gaves us all kinds of interesting facts, anecdotes and his personal beliefs regarding all things pirate. He was great! After the tour we wandered around on our own. All told we spent about 2 hours there. It’s not very big, but it’s full of interesting artifacts. Pat Croce, the owner, is passionate about the history of pirates and it shows in the details. All told, we had a great time at a very affordable price and would highly recommend it. Aarghhh!!!

We bought the combo tickets to go get the tour as well as the museum. Absolutely loved it! The little one (5) was able to have fun in the pirate museum and the older one (15) loved the historical tour. The tour guide even did some blacksmithing in real-time and fired a cannon. At the pirate museum pretty much everything was interactive and fun to explore. Definitely recommend, for all ages!

My wife and I went to the Pirate Museum this past weekend. On first glance, it's like other museums you might encounter with lots of signs to read and trinkets to see. However, everything changed when Captain Mayhem came to lead the tour. This gent loves the life of a pirate, knows the life of a pirate, walks and talks like a pirate and entertains like P.T. Barnum. I was educated, inspired and laughing all the way.

My husband loves pirates & it was his birthday, so we went. It was a much more enjoyable experience than I had expected. There is plenty of superficial hand-on things to amuse the kids but if you actually read the signs on the displays, it’s a historical museum that explains both the culture & geo-politics of the time.

Do the scavenger hunt. It’s actually fun. You will be rewarded with treasure upon successful completion.

This place is great for kids 4 to 12 with many imaginative exhibits and hands on things to do. The one guy dressed as a pirate with the accordion was great with children. It was a small museum which got crowded with any more than 40 people but had some good information about pirates.
