About
Take a step back in time as you enter this Grand Gilded Age home, built by Franklin W. Smith in 1883. Franklin Smith, an eclectic world traveler, was originally from Boston, and he built the Villa Zorayda as his winter home in St. Augustine, FL. Smith was the innovator of poured concrete and crushed coquina construction that is seen throughout St. Augustine today. On the "National Register of Historic Places", the Villa Zorayda is a 1/10th scale reproduction of a portion of the Moorish Castle, the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. View the elegant traceries on the walls made of alabaster and plaster which were made in Spain using the same molds that the Moors used for the walls of the Alhambra Palace! In addition to the magnificent architecture of the building is the original art and antique collection: hand pierced brass lamps, hand carved and exquisite inlaid furniture, an Egyptian rug over 2400 years old, and much more! You will also see beautiful hand painted Spanish & Egyptian tiles, Moorish horseshoe arches, and the beautiful architectural details from the Alhambra Palace. Learn the 133 year history of the Villa Zorayda as you take a state-of-the-art audio guided tour, which run continuously throughout the day. The audio guided tour is available in English, Spanish and French. Free parking while visiting the Museum.

The Villa is a house designed to evoke the Alhambra in Granada. It is toured via audio that takes you to 20 stops throughout the house, most of which is open to visitors except a tower that is still being renovated. There's a collection of antique items and photos throughout the house. It's an easy and interesting house to visit that has long been one of St. Augustine's most-visited tourist attractions.

The previous owners of this historic house modeled it after the Alhambra's architectural features. It is interesting, but once you've been to the Alhambra.....

The audio tour of this once home, now museum is strikingly both historic and beautiful. You learn about the contributions to the development of St. Augustine through time

My family didn’t like villa zorayda we got tired of the audio guide tour after only 20-30 minutes into it. Personally I’m a HUGE history nerd and I was very disappointed.

Fun museum, packed full of historical artifacts and history. We enjoyed it. Too bad they don't let you take pictures. The audio guide was ok .. I think you can plug in your own headphones if you remember to bring these ..

You'll never visit anything like this. Moorish architecture home packed with some of the most exquisite (if not eclectic) hand-crafted furniture and decor you'll ever see! The self-paced audio tour was wonderfully informative without being overly long (or boring) and it was very easy to operate. My 9 & 12 year old daughters loved this place too. ABSOLUTELY spend an hour here, it's incredible! Locals, check it out!

This house museum is spectacular! Built by Franklin Smith as a winter home in 1883, the home is modeled on the Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain. Filled with world class decorative arts and furnishings, one of the highlights is the 2,400 year old cat rug taken from an Egyptian tomb, along with the mummy’s foot. Its story is fascinating.

The provided audio tour provides excellent detail of the rooms. This home is a national treasure!

The place is jam-packed full of interesting pieces. My only complaint is that it's a self-guided tour with a little "radio" you hold to your ear as you go from room to room. My arm got tired having to hold it the whole time. It might have been nice to have the option to read about the pieces or listen. There were some items that you could read about, but not all. It does have some very unique furniture and decor.

We vastly enjoyed this visit. The museum is well organized and the automated narration devices work perfectly. This brought back fond memories of our visit to Alhambra.
