I would highly recommend this Park for ALL visitors to St. Augustine! You are placed on a pontoon boat (ferry) -and brought over to the island where you can explore the fort used by the Spanish in the 1600's. The Park Ranger gives you an excellent review of what exactly took place before and after the fort was built! Kids... More

It's worth the 20 minute drive from St. Augustine to visit this fort. It's more up-close and personal than the Castillo, and far more peaceful. You have to catch the NPS ferry across the river, which is free, but first-come, first-serve. And they won't go if they see lightening. But waiting for the ferry is nice because there's a nice,... Had a great time exploring the fort. Enjoyed the view from the top of the fort, very interesting rooms to tour with so much historical information, great photo opportunities all around and best of all was the wonderful breeze at the top of the fort.

My husband & I came to St Augustine because of its history & beauty!! So, we thought this would be a great place to visit. It was not!! It started with the lady in the visitor center- tried to ask questions about the trees. She was very vague & was rushing me to get out to the tour. Then we... More

They shut down the boat that ferries across the intercoastal to the snake island, where the fort is located. There is an area for wildlife and a short movie to set the stage for the fort. Very interesting. Need to keep small children by hand inside the fort. High spaces without adequate guard rails.

IMO, this is a better tour than Castillo de San Marcos. You can touch, feel, and climb the quarters of the fort. Enjoy it now, one day access may be restricted.

I have taken visitors to this place several times. I always learn something new. There are quite a few guides that all have a different area of expertise. The boat ride across to the fort is beautiful.

This place is worth your time. It's got a good mix of History, pretty scenery, and just enough stuff to keep you entertained for a few minutes. Expect to spend about 2 hours here, try and catch the ferry at just the right moment. there are some steps, and this is not necessarily for people who cannot get around really... More

This fort is unique in that you take a boat ride to get to it. It is very small. The park rangers tell you the history and answer questions on the boat ride. It is a Hirt distance and calm river. You need to have on good shoes for walking as the path is small rocks. You can climb a... More
