Hi there, friends, hoping to visit the "Oldest European Settlement" in the U.S.! I haven't been to visit Fort Matanzas National Monument in quite a long time - when my Father was alive, I felt like I lived there. You take a boat to get there, all the while the guide is explaining the Fort's history and the beautiful area... More

Docks were damaged during the hurricane Matthew, therefore the ferry was not running. They are in the process of making repairs. They also have to repair water damage from raising water and a tree falling on a roof of an out building. Repairs are in the process now.

A great stop on your visit to St. Augustine. Historic site , it will take you back to a time in history . Explore this fascinating monument built of coquina bricks and learn of the early days of the Spanish settlers and military. See the reenactments on the battlefield. Great for all ages a must see !

We wanted to take the free ferry over to Fort Matanzas but was informed the ferry would not start up again until sometime in January 2017 due to the Hurricane. Will most likely visit again in the spring when repairs have been completed.

We were there for the Gun and cannon fire salutes ,which was great seeing on a clear warm day. They made everything look official, with there reenactment of British Soldiers.

We had plans to take the ferry trip across to the fort but it wasn't running - I believe due to damage to the dock from the recent hurricane. So without that activity, it was a little lackluster - half mile nature walk was quick and they have nice, clean restrooms. We drove across the street to the beach and... More

Ferry not operating due to Huricaine Matthew damage. Disappointed we could not cross and there isn't really a lot else to do except a short nature walk. Clean bathrooms. We did, however see a Land Tortoise on the ocean side of the park-very cool.

This is a lovely spot. Nice parking area with shade trees and a picnic area. Small visitor center with an 8 minute movie. Short walk to the ferry which takes you to the fort. Currently, the ferry is not running. The docks were damaged in Hurricane Matthew. Enjoyed our visit.

So much early history of colonial Florida took place here and the rangers are very knowledgeable. Sadly hurricane Matthew damaged the pier and the ferry is not running across the river to the fort. It is hoped to resume early in 2017
