It's free, it's a boat ride, it's an experience. The guides have historical stories that entertain and luckily they vary since we take guests here all the time (it's free, remember). Frequent service, fantastic. A bit of Florida that's not crowded and close to beaches that are not crowded as well as close to restaurants like Capt. Mac's. Never a... More

If you love history, then this is a great place to visit. It is free, has a cool little boat ride to get to the site and does not take a long time to explore. We will definitely go again next year.

We added this fort to our itinerary at the spur of the moment, and we're so glad we did! We have done all the big things in St Augustine - the Castillo, the Alligator Farm, etc. This was our first visit to Fort Matanzas. It is a very small fort (like, very small), but that's part of its charm. To... More

I loved doing the nature trail and fort visit. It was not bad with a lot of shade. Also some snakes in walk way and hanging from trees. Yes they were real. The history behind the fort is sad with the slaughtering of the local natives.

Someone told us about this out of the way park that is run by the national park service. It is FREE!! But you have to get there early to get the boat times you want when it's busy. They are definitely handicap and stroller accessible. This was fun and educational for the whole family.

This is a small park but our family enjoyed the experience of the boat ride across the river and the history lesson that goes along with it. A nice morning adventure.

Such history here to see. National historic site. Worth every minute. You can walk throughout the entire fort and read the informative displays. There are often small demonstrations and cannon fire as well.

Don't miss this little piece of history, it might be smaller than the main castle in St. Augustine but it has plenty of history packed into it. Great way to spend a few hours and learn a little history of Florida.

A short boat ride to Fort Matanzas is a fun and informative trip. If you enjoy American history then this is worth the trip. It was constructed to stop the British from attacking St. Augustine from behind during the American Revolution (1775-1783). Enjoyed spending some time exploring the fort.
