My favorite sections of this large and well maintained garden are the mariposarium (butterfly enclosure) and the carefully sculpted Japanese garden.

It costs only $5 per person for foreigners, with a token 50 cents more for the butterflies. In the latter there were a total of seven species, but I saw only three. The population was large and the vegetation well maintained.

Many families were picnicking on the Sunday I was there, and several school classes took advantage of the 35 minute train ride through the park.

Very little trash, and an attempt to recycle. Unfortunately, the different bins were not marked, which made for a random distribution of waste across bins.

This is such a calm, relaxing escape from the city. It is about $10 to get in and the gardens are HUGE. So expansive. There are several different sections filled with beautiful plants. Perfect for nature lovers or those who just want some good pictures. After multiple visits, it still manages to seem new.

Santo Domingo is a big friendly place. The park is a 450-acre green miracle, a respite from the crowds and traffic. The best feature is a multi-acre Japanese garden, with ponds and beautiful plantings. Entrance is just $5 per person.

There are some pretty spots there and it is a nice place for a long walk. Some upgrades and maintenance may help much..
